Blood apostle Chapter 44

Velmora – Rooftop Overlooking the Lower Sector

The sun bled its last light across the fractured skyline, staining the ruins of the spire in hues of crimson and ash. Wind tore through the broken metal skeletons of once-great towers, carrying with it the faint cries of children, sirens, and the brittle stillness of a world barely holding together.

Kiro stood at the edge of a rooftop, his cloak fluttering behind him like a dying banner. Pablo was beside him, silent, eyes fixed on the distant horizon.

And then it began.

A low hum rose in the sky—deeper than thunder, older than language. The clouds overhead twisted unnaturally, spiraling inward like a vortex made of shadows.

Then—reality itself cracked.

A jagged black rift split open the sky, slicing through the firmament like a divine wound. From its depths poured not light, but darkness—living, screaming, writhing.

Voidlings.

Thousands of them.

They spilled from the tear in chaotic formation—wings leathery and barbed, limbs mismatched and ever-shifting, eyes like molten ink. Some flew. Some crawled along the very air. Others dove straight to the surface in spiraling frenzy.

The skyline of Velmora ignited in panic. Sirens wailed. Emergency glyphs lit up along every remaining defense post. Mechs roared to life, rail cannons charged, and crimson banners of the El'Vertigo resistance unfurled in the smoke-choked wind.

And still they came.

Pablo took an instinctive step back. "What the hell is that?!"

Kiro didn't answer. His eyes were locked on the rift. On the thing that followed.

From within the spiral of chaos, a single figure emerged.

Floating in perfect stillness beneath the black wound in the sky, the entity was draped in robes darker than space. Horns spiraled from his brow like a crown of bone. His face was partly hidden behind a mask of obsidian and teeth, his exposed skin glistening with runes that burned in and out of existence.

His eyes—twin pits of inverted stars—devoured the light around them.

And as he raised a single finger, the swarm of Voidlings froze midair.

The entire city held its breath.

Pablo whispered, "Is that... a Voidling too?"

Kiro's hand twitched.

[System Alert: An Omega-Class Rift has manifested.][Analysis: Dimensional breach linked to dormant energy signature: Omega Core.][Warning: The unstable energy released during your previous encounter has awakened latent interdimensional riftlines.]

The words echoed directly in Kiro's mind.

[Conclusion: This is your doing.]

His breath caught in his throat.

"No..." Kiro whispered. "Not the Void. Not here."

Pablo glanced at him, alarmed. "What are you talking about?"

Kiro turned slowly toward his friend, the Blood God System's interface pulsing faintly across his vision. Crimson data scrolled in the edges of his mind, the truth sharp and merciless.

"The Omega Core," Kiro said aloud. "The blast—when I absorbed its energy... it didn't just overload Aurex. It tore a hole through space."

He clenched his fists. Blood coiled around his wrists like serpents, reacting to his rage, his fear, his guilt.

"I didn't just draw power... I opened a door."

They looked up again.

The figure in the sky now spread his arms, and the Voidlings began to move—not dive, but form a pattern, a ritualistic spiral. Symbols formed in the air beneath them, drawn in pure shadow and Void-energy. Whatever was happening, it wasn't an invasion.

It was a summoning.

Kiro's voice was low and bitter. "They're not here to destroy Velmora. Not yet. They're preparing something worse."

Pablo's hands tightened at his sides. "So what do we do?"

Kiro looked down at the city—his home, torn from him by the Empire, twisted by rebellion, and now on the edge of annihilation.

"We stop them," he said. "Even if it kills us."

The rooftop shook slightly as a distant tower collapsed in the distance, engulfed in flames.

[System Update Available: Core Evolution — Stage Two. Initiate upgrade?]

Kiro's heart pounded.

"Do it," he whispered. "We'll need everything."

[Upgrade Initiated.]

Crimson veins of light burst from Kiro's chest, his body seizing as the Blood God System began to evolve once more—dragging him deeper into what he had become.

And in the sky, the horned entity turned—and looked directly at him.

Their eyes locked.

And for the first time since discovering the Blood God's legacy...

Kiro felt true fear.
