Chapter 35: Chapter 35 What to Do
Gu Zhihan didn’t answer but retorted, his face saying it all. If he had money with him, would he have wasted words asking her if she had any? He would have gone straight to buy a new red neckerchief!
“So, what should we do?” Faced with a looming crisis, Mengmeng paradoxically calmed down. After packing her bag, she stood up from the ground with a look of resolve to meet her doom, “Forget it, if I don’t wear the red neckerchief, then so be it. Let the old witch hit or scold me all she wants!”
Having said so, she righteously grabbed Gu Zhihan’s hand and headed towards the school entrance.
“Stop!” Gu Zhihan pulled her to a halt.
“What’s up?” Mengmeng turned her head, with a pair of sparkling eyes full of confusion looking at the boy in front of her.
Gu Zhihan pursed his lips and took off his red neckerchief. “You can wear mine.”
As he said this, he tied the bright red neckerchief around her neck personally.
Mengmeng looked down at his actions, then raised her head to look at him, “But if you give me your neckerchief, what will you do?”
“I’ll be fine,” Gu Zhihan said nonchalantly.
“No, that can’t do. The old witch is so fierce; what if she sees you without the red neckerchief and decides to punish you or hit you?” Mengmeng shook her head at him and immediately untied the red neckerchief the boy had just tied around her neck. “I’d rather be scolded or hit myself than have you take the blame for me!”
It was her own careless mistake to forget to wear the red neckerchief; how could she let him take the fall for her?
After speaking, Mengmeng handed back the untied neckerchief to him.
“Didn’t I just tell you I’ll be fine?” Gu Zhihan frowned upon seeing her action, retied the neckerchief for her, and sternly warned her, “Do not take it off again.”
His skin was thick; even if he did get hit, it would be nothing.
Unable to argue with him, Mengmeng obediently wore his red neckerchief.
“Darling, since you gave me the red neckerchief, don’t you think I should repay you?” Mengmeng quickly thought and continued.
“What do you have in mind?” Gu Zhihan stopped in his tracks and glanced back at her.
“I’ll repay you with a kiss!” Mengmeng said, getting up on her tiptoes and moving closer to him.
“Hehe.” Gu Zhihan couldn’t help but reveal a ‘just as expected’ expression, and he immediately pushed away her puckered lips with his hand, “Don’t kiss me; that would be the best repayment already!”
“Come on, we need to hurry to school or we’ll be late,” Gu Zhihan ignored the little girl’s frustrated look, checked his watch, and saw that it was almost time for class, so he quickly dragged her towards the school.
As they neared their class, Mengmeng saw Tong Mo and Lu Zichen standing outside.
Standing with them was… the homeroom teacher!!
She was currently spitting fury, fiercely lecturing the two, “How many times did I tell you yesterday not to forget your red neckerchiefs? But lo and behold, you forgot them the very next day. Hold out your hands, and see if I don’t teach you a lesson…”
As she spoke, she produced a stick from behind her like a magician and grabbed both their hands they were desperately trying to hide, “Smack! Smack! Smack!” she hit each of them thrice.
Both kids’ hands immediately swelled up.
Especially Tong Mo, whose tears fell from the pain, and even Lu Zichen had to fight hard to keep from crying.
“That’s terrifying…” Mengmeng gasped, not expecting her earlier speculation to actually come true.
The homeroom teacher really did punish students who didn’t wear their red neckerchiefs!
“Darling, I should give you back the red neckerchief,” Mengmeng thought of her husband getting his palms smacked by the teacher and felt a thud of dread in her heart. She immediately moved to take off the red neckerchief around her neck again.
