Chapter 62: Chapter 62 Together Turn Ten
The fourth-grade National Day holiday was upon us, and Mengmeng and Gu Zhihan were turning ten years old.
Since both were born at the same time, the two families decided that they should celebrate their tenth birthdays together this year.
Before the holiday, Mengmeng repeatedly reminded her two mischievous friends, “Hey, hey, Tong Mo, Lu Zichen buddy, remember to come to my house on October 5th for my and my husband’s birthday banquet. You must bring gifts, and if you really can’t make it, don’t forget to mail the presents to us!”
“What the heck, is that even a thing?” Tong Mo, who was packing up her school bag, couldn’t help but turn around and glance at her, the corners of her mouth twitching incessantly.
“Isn’t this just asking for presents outright under the guise of celebrating a birthday?”
Lu Zichen also couldn’t resist making a sarcastic remark.
“If there are no presents, then we’ll have to end our friendship!” Mengmeng said with a helpless shrug.
Tong Mo and Lu Zichen were at a loss for words.
This kid…was really something!
“Don’t worry, you won’t miss out on any presents!” The two chorused in unison.
“Then we won’t end our friendship, we remain good friends!” replied Mengmeng immediately, grinning from ear to ear, and after hearing the bell for class to end, quickly trotted after Gu Zhihan, bouncing home merrily.
When she reached the classroom door, she seemed to remember something, quickly turned her head back to her two mischievous friends, and added, “Don’t just remember to bring me a present, don’t forget about my husband’s share!”
The day before their birthday, Mengmeng was so excited she couldn’t sleep. In the wee hours of the morning, while the sky was still dark, she wriggled out from under the covers, rubbing her eyes and looking at Gu Zhihan beside her.
“Husband, get up quickly, shall we go to the mall today? I’ll pick out a birthday present for you, and you pick out one for me, and we’ll exchange them on our birthday!”
Mengmeng leaned over him, her childish, milky voice ringing incessantly in his ear.
Gu Zhihan, who was awoken from his sleep, sounded slightly annoyed, and upon hearing such a boring proposal, his mood soured further.
“But I’m interested!” Mengmeng puffed her cheeks, climbed onto him, and sat astride, “I don’t care, if you don’t accompany me, I’ll just sit on you all day today!”
She sure was playing the stubborn card.
“Get off!” Gu Zhihan almost felt like he was being crushed, and finally opened his dark eyes, his handsome face alternating between shades of anger and embarrassment.
This kid, to actually dare to press down on her… Absolutely outrageous!
“I will not!” Mengmeng stubbornly made a scene, undeterred by his sternness and refusing to get off him, “Unless you accompany me to the mall to buy gifts!”
Gu Zhihan’s face turned utterly dark.
“Even if we go to the mall, could you at least check what time it is now, whether the mall is open?” Finally reaching his limit, he lifted the little girl from his body and picked up the alarm clock, placing it in front of her eyes.
“Umm, let me see.” Mengmeng turned to look at the alarm clock on the bedside table as he suggested, and was startled by what she saw, “How is it only 3:30 in the middle of the night?”
She thought it was already around five or six in the morning.
“So, you will go back to sleep right now, this instant!” Seeing her bewildered look, Gu Zhihan raised his voice, pressing her back into bed without waiting for a response.
Under the blankets, Mengmeng entwined her arms and legs around him, batting her eyes, and asked once more, “So, husband, will you accompany me to the mall to buy presents when it gets light?”
