Roger Leonard smiled and said, "Mr. Jones, if you don’t mind, I’d like to borrow some of your time to catch up with your fiancée."
Skyler Jones respectfully asked Rebecca Quentin, "What do you think?"
"Sure, I haven’t seen General Leonard in a long time either."
Skyler Jones then said, "Well then... there’s a café downstairs at ’Oversky’, why don’t you two go in and chat."
In the café, Roger Leonard narrowed his eyes slightly, scrutinizing Rebecca Quentin.
Rebecca Quentin couldn’t help but ask, "General Leonard, is there something on my face?"
Roger Leonard opened his eyes and smiled, "I’m trying to figure out what exactly is so attractive about you..."
Rebecca Quentin shot him a look, "You’re here to make fun of me, aren’t you?"
Roger Leonard immediately put on a serious face, "How could I be making fun of you? I just didn’t expect Skyler Jones to end his thirty-seven years of single life for you."
"Do you know him well?"
"Of course, I don’t know him very well, but he always seemed quite inscrutable, similar to Dora."
"Dora" seemed to be a sensitive name in their conversation, causing the atmosphere to become a bit tense, making Rebecca Quentin unsure of what to say next.
"What, I mention Dora and you go silent, haha, if Mr. Jones saw your reaction, he’d definitely be jealous."
Rebecca Quentin still remained silent.
Roger Leonard seemed to be reveling in teasing Rebecca Quentin, and said mischievously, "Dora always says you’re sharp-tongued, but I haven’t seen it—do you only show that side in front of him?"
"General Leonard, what are you trying to say?" She didn’t think someone as busy as Roger Leonard, a group president, would waste his time on someone as insignificant as her.
"OK." Roger Leonard tapped the table with his fingers, then said, "Actually, besides talking business with Mr. Jones today, the most important thing I wanted to tell you is that Dora and my sister-in-law broke up!"
Rebecca Quentin’s tone was calm, her emotions seemingly unshaken.
Roger Leonard leaned back in his chair, mouth agape with shock, "You’re not reacting at all?"
Rebecca Quentin shrugged casually.
Roger Leonard sighed, "Alright, I admit this news hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Dora and my sister-in-law’s relationship seems to have major issues... In the past two months, Dora hasn’t returned to New York, he’s been MIA, and I only recently heard he’s back in T City. This is completely unlike his usual style; he never goes this long without seeing Christine Quinn!"
"General Leonard, is that all you have to say to me?"
"Alright, enough about Dora..." Roger Leonard sensibly said, "Let’s talk about you. Are you really planning to marry Skyler Jones?"
Rebecca Quentin did not answer this question.
Roger Leonard smiled, "Hesitating means you haven’t made up your mind yet, so Aunt’s hopes haven’t been dashed."
Rebecca Quentin still said nothing.
Roger Leonard continued as if he were having a private conversation, "To be honest, Aunt knew I was coming to Y City this time and gave me a tough task. She wants me to say some good things about Dora to you, hoping to change your mind about marrying Skyler Jones."
Rebecca Quentin remained silent.
Roger Leonard sighed again, "I don’t think there’s any need to say good things about Dora—you know how he is, authoritarian, callous, takes forever to reply to me...if I were a woman, I wouldn’t marry him... But, Becca, it seems like Dora behaves differently in front of you. I heard you’ve seen him angry, is that true?"
Having known Howard Geoffrey for so many years, Roger Leonard had hardly ever seen emotional fluctuations in him. Even when he was furious, he remained calm, but after sex, your fate would inevitably come.
Scolding her, yelling at her—does that count as being angry?
Rebecca Quentin instinctively pondered for a second, but Roger Leonard broke into a grinning face, "So it’s true! Even Dora has an off-day, ha-ha..." At this moment, Roger Leonard was more interested in how he’d tease Howard Geoffrey in the future.
As Rebecca Quentin watched Roger Leonard laugh speechlessly, Skyler Jones walked over to them.
Clearly, their time for catching up was over...
Skyler Jones drove Rebecca Quentin to her building.
Rebecca Quentin said "see you tomorrow" to Skyler Jones, then got out of the car.
However, just as Rebecca Quentin was getting out, Skyler Jones grabbed her.
Rebecca Quentin instinctively turned her head, "Hmm?"
Skyler Jones leaned over and kissed her on the cheek without warning.
Rebecca Quentin visibly flinched. Since they started dating, this was probably their first kiss, though not on the lips, it still left her feeling slightly uneasy.
Skyler Jones looked at Rebecca Quentin’s somewhat flushed face and smiled with satisfaction, "Goodnight."
"Uh, goodnight." It took Rebecca Quentin a moment to react.
As Skyler Jones was about to drive away, Aunt Clare’s warm voice suddenly called out, "Mr. Jones, why not come up for a while?"
Since proposing to Rebecca Quentin, Aunt Clare had stayed in Y City.
Skyler Jones rolled down the window, looked at Aunt Clare coming out of the apartment building, and smiled, "It’s late, Becca worked hard today, let her rest early."
Aunt Clare gave Skyler Jones a meaningful look, "I made some soup for Becca, you should come up and try it."
Skyler Jones naturally understood Aunt Clare’s intentions, but after glancing at Rebecca Quentin, he politely replied, "I’m busy tonight, perhaps another time!"
Aunt Clare nodded helplessly, "Alright."
"Becca, it’s cold, wear another layer."
Without saying more, Skyler Jones drove away.
After Skyler Jones left, Aunt Clare sighed, "Miss, look at you, you didn’t even say a word to try to keep Mr. Jones here... If you’d said something, maybe he wouldn’t have been busy tonight?"
Aunt Clare may be old, but she’s sharp and sees things clearly.
Rebecca Quentin calmly said, "I’m not ready yet." As an adult, she understood exactly what Aunt Clare’s intentions were for keeping Skyler Jones tonight.
"Miss, you’re aware of how good Mr. Jones is to you. I don’t want you to miss out on such a great man... Forget the past, move on with Mr. Jones, get married soon, have kids. That way, Aunt Clare can feel she’s fulfilled her duty to the family."
