Realizing that Rebecca Quentin was now a mature adult, Aunt Clare didn’t say anything more. "Alright, go back inside. It’s windy out here."
Just as Becca turned to walk into the apartment building, the sudden screech of a car braking cut through the air.
Becca instinctively turned her head and saw Roger Leonard getting out of the car.
Aunt Clare asked with puzzlement, "Who is he?"
Becca simply explained, "My former boss. His surname is Leonard."
Roger approached Becca with his signature wicked smile. "Would you mind if I chat with you for a bit?"
"Is something wrong?"
"Nothing, but I have to go back to G City tonight, so I wanted to have a few last words with you."
Actually, she didn’t mind chatting with Roger. After all, he had helped her a lot in G City. However, the relationship between Roger and that man made her wary.
Aunt Clare smiled at them. "Why not go upstairs and chat? It’s windy out here."
Roger politely replied to Aunt Clare, "No need, Ma’am. I’ll just talk with Becca for a few minutes in the car."
Becca also spoke, "Aunt Clare, you go up first. I’ll be up soon."
Seeing that Roger didn’t look like a suspicious person, Aunt Clare nodded, took the handbag from Becca, and left.
Inside the car, Becca casually asked Roger, "Why are you in such a hurry to leave? Didn’t you just start discussing your partnership with Mr. Jones?"
As Roger fastened Becca’s seatbelt, he replied cryptically, "If I don’t leave tonight, I probably won’t be able to tomorrow."
"Huh?" Only then did Becca realize Roger had already fastened her seatbelt. She asked in confusion, "Are we going somewhere?"
Roger replied, "Mm, I’m taking you somewhere."
Becca asked, still confused, "I thought we were just chatting?"
Starting the engine, Roger said, "We’ll talk on the way."
Becca initially thought Roger just wanted to find a place to sit and chat. However, to her surprise, he slowly drove the car through the interchange and finally headed for the suburbs.
Already sensing something was wrong, Becca asked Roger in horror, "Where are you taking me?"
"My friend’s private airport."
"A private airport?" Becca’s face showed shock.
Roger then admitted bluntly, "Actually, saying I wanted to chat was just an excuse. My real purpose was to bring you to the airport."
"Why are you taking me to the airport?" Becca was completely baffled.
"To put it simply, my main purpose in coming to Y City today wasn’t to discuss business with Skyler Jones. It was to complete that difficult task I mentioned. I’m sorry I wasn’t clear with you earlier today. Aunt not only asked me to put in a few good words for Dora, but more importantly, to take you to an island."
"Yes, a beautiful little island that could help you and Dora reconcile."
Becca could imagine Mrs. Geoffrey resorting to such measures, but she certainly couldn’t accept it. She forced a smile. "Hey, stop kidding around! Let me out of the car. I’ll go explain to Mrs. Geoffrey myself."
"I’m sorry, Becca. Aunt gave me a non-negotiable task. If I don’t complete it, she might ignore me. And you know, if Aunt ignores me, the consequences will be very serious." Roger feigned innocence.
After a fierce struggle, Becca finally stopped trying to interfere with Roger’s driving. She warned calmly, "Roger Leonard, if you don’t let me out of this car right now, I’m calling the police."
Using his full name showed just how furious Becca was.
However, Roger replied unhurriedly, "I recall you usually keep your phone in your handbag. And it seems you just gave your handbag to your helper, didn’t you?"
"You..." Becca was so furious she was speechless, especially since what Roger had said was true.
Roger’s lips curved into a smirk. "Sit tight, Becca... I promise it’ll be a sweet journey."
"Mr. Geoffrey, there’s one primary issue to consider now. The government stipulates that the designated space cannot exceed 10% of the total area. However, according to Designer Tom’s plan, there might be a 12% overage. The government is currently very strict about this, so this excess portion might not get approval. If we ask the designer to revise the design, it could affect the project’s schedule. What are your thoughts?"
"Perhaps we could consider making a slight alteration to the existing design..."
"No. Even the slightest deviation could impact the building’s overall aesthetic, and construction has already started. Mr. Geoffrey, what are your thoughts?"
