She turned her head and, though puzzled, still spoke up, “Of course I hate.”
“Be my wife, and I’ll help you take revenge.”
Gu Qiangwei was taken aback.
Wasn’t that previous speech just deliberately said for her father’s benefit? What was the meaning of this now?
“Are you being serious or are you just pretending?” she asked, staring intently at him.
He turned his head, his black eyes dark as the starry night, yet unfathomable.
Gu Qiangwei finally breathed a sigh of relief as if unburdened, having thought he really wanted her to be his wife.
If that were true, it would be far too abrupt.
“Let’s go get our marriage certificate now!”
Before her thoughts had settled, Qin Sijue suddenly spoke again, causing Gu Qiangwei to startle once more, turning to look at him uncomprehendingly.
“Get what certificate?”
“Marriage certificate!”
“But you said it was pretend, right?”
“A fake marriage, but we’ll really get the certificate.”
So, he meant to have a fake marriage with her?
Why? Just to keep the promise he had made to her father?
But her father was no longer there, so there was no need for this now, was there?
This man was enigmatic, inscrutable in his current thoughts to her.
While she was still in a daze, the cool Bugatti Veyron suddenly swerved, and Gu Qiangwei steadied her rapidly tilting body by grabbing the handle!
“Within ten minutes, I need to be at the civil affairs bureau.”
On the way, Qin Sijue made a phone call, and Gu Qiangwei had no idea whom he was calling, as she was still immersed in the shock of becoming his “pretend wife.”
It wasn’t until the car came to a complete stop that Gu Qiangwei snapped back to reality, turned her head, and saw through the car window several big characters: Jingcheng Civil Affairs Bureau.
Had they really come to the civil affairs bureau? Was this man not joking?
With a delayed reaction, Gu Qiangwei turned her head and met Qin Sijue’s deep, ink-like black eyes.
As his words fell, he leaned out of the car.
Gu Qiangwei was still stunned, until the man walked around the front of the car and came to the passenger side to open the door for her, and then she was jolted awake.
“You, you really want to register with me?” Marriage was no trivial matter, was it something to joke about?
The man’s face suddenly drew closer, pinning her against the car door, his voice low and magnetic, “It’s just pretend, why are you so nervous?”
Yes, it was just pretend, what was she nervous for?
“I don’t understand, why do you want to have a fake marriage with me? Is it purely to help me?” she asked, looking at him.
“Let’s say it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement.”
He suddenly let go of her and stood up straight, his expression cool as he stared at her.
“Mutually beneficial?” She was even more puzzled.
Now, she didn’t even have a place to live, what could she have that he would want?
“I need a pretend girlfriend, and you need a powerful backer to take revenge. Doesn’t that fit the definition of mutually beneficial?”
Indeed, that was true, so he was actually planning to help her?
While she was still stunned, another figure approached them.
“Mr. Qin, I have the item you requested.” Then Luo Chen handed a document bag to Qin Sijue, respectfully saying, “The area has been cleared.”
Qin Sijue took the paper bag, turned around, and headed straight for the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Next was the ‘Marriage Registration Office.’
Gu Qiangwei was visiting this kind of place for the first time. She had believed that marriages were registered daily, yet today, the entire hall was empty except for the staff – there wasn’t another soul in sight.
