Inside the interrogation room.
The sky outside slowly darkened, and Bai Qianqian became increasingly nervous.
Thankfully, the people this time have not restricted her freedom, she went and turned on the light herself.
The brightness gave her a sense of safety. She sat back down in her chair, continuing to wait for Bai Jingqing to bail her out.
Time became particularly difficult to bear…
Bai Qianqian was counting the seconds as she waited, her eyes fixed on the clock on the wall, unwilling to even blink.
The light overhead flickered a few times, and with a final ‘buzz’, it went off completely, plunging the room into darkness.
When Bai Jingqing approached the interrogation room, he heard Bai Qianqian’s terrified shrieks from inside, as well as the sound of a chair falling.
Bai Jingqing quickly walked over and kicked open the door, anxiously calling out, “Qianqian…”
“Help! Sob… Help!” Bai Qianqian fell to the ground, crying out of fright.
Using the faint outside light, Bai Jingqing quickly stepped to her side and hugged her, “Don’t be scared, I’m here.”
Bai Qianqian clung tightly to Bai Jingqing, hugging him so tightly it was almost painful, “Take me away… take me away… I don’t want to be here anymore!”
“Alright, I’ll take you away!” Bai Jingqing picked her up and quickly left.
Bai Qianqian clung to him the whole time, feeling for the first time that Bai Jingqing was so warm and familiar.
Bai Jingqing, feeling her trembling, deeply regretted his actions, feeling that he may have pushed her too far this time.
Once they reached his car, Bai Jingqing didn’t leave right away. He got into the backseat and began gently patting her back, comforting her, “It’s okay now, don’t be scared. We’re out. Look!”
Bai Qianqian still clung to him, her face against his neck, moist and cool.
Bai Jingqing didn’t rush her, his large hand patiently soothing her, allowing her to calm down slowly on her own.
A few minutes later, Bai Qianqian finally recovered a little. She looked outside and then at the man she was hugging, wanting to get off him with embarrassment.
Bai Jingqing tightened his arm to stop her, “Still scared?”
Bai Qianqian immediately shook her head. Their eyes met, creating a subtle atmosphere, with Bai Qianqian’s arms still around his neck…
She quickly removed them, moved off him and sat next to him.
A handkerchief was handed to her and Bai Qianqian immediately looked up to find Bai Jingqing holding a handkerchief, carefully wiping the tears from her face…
“I… I can do it myself.” Bai Qianqian tried to snatch it away, but he stopped her, “Don’t move.”
Bai Jingqing carefully dried her face for her, saying, “There you go.”
“Thank you,” Bai Qianqian thanked him awkwardly.
“Let’s go!” Bai Jingqing tossed the handkerchief into the back seat, opened the car door and got out, returning to the driver’s seat.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, he seemed lost for a moment. Then, he started the car and left the police station.
Bai Qianqian sat in the back seat the whole time, gazing out of the window. Bai Jingqing occasionally glanced at her through the rearview mirror. From the moment she got into the car, she had not moved at all.
Bai Jingqing couldn’t help but furrow his brows…
On the way, Bai Jingqing suddenly asked her, “Do you want some ice cream?”
Bai Qianqian was taken aback. She thought she had heard wrong, “Huh?”
He pulled over the car and asked, “What flavor of ice cream would you like?”
“Vanilla, chocolate, green tea!” sniffled Bai Qianqian, her eyes red as she looked at him.
