Mabel Quinn was worried that Kyle Kinston might have unusual symptoms again, so she brought a quilt from her room and lay down to sleep on a long sofa in Kyle’s bedroom.
But in the middle of the night, she felt very heavy, as if something was pressing on her.
When she opened her eyes, with the dim moonlight sneaking in through the window, she saw Kyle’s face, right up close to hers.
So close that the tips of their noses were almost touching.
Mabel was startled, "K...Kyle... you’re awake?" In the moonlight, she could see his phoenix eyes, staring fixedly at her.
It seemed that because she opened her eyes, he leaned back, putting some distance between them. It was only then she realized that the reason she felt heavy was because his whole body was almost pressing on hers.
"Get up first, you’re pressing on me, I can’t move." She said, since it was already July, she was only covered with a thin blanket. At this moment, with him pressing on her , she could even feel a certain line of his body.
Kyle shifted his body, lightening the weight on Mabel. But as he opened his mouth, Mabel almost slid off the sofa.
"Sis, it’s so dark, I’m scared."
Mabel was stunned. Sis? He was calling her sis again? "What’s wrong with you?" she asked urgently as she sat up.
His two hands were clutching the cuffs of her pajamas, like a child seeking protection when scared, "I woke up, it’s so dark around, but it’s okay because sis is here."
Mabel said, "Don’t be afraid, sis will turn on the light right away." Then she felt a bit speechless to herself, influenced by him calling her sis, she even started calling herself sis.
Mabel got up and walked to the place she remembered the switch was, and during this time, Kyle’s hand was always tugging at one sleeve of her clothes.
The light came on in the room, and Mabel saw an unusual blush on Kyle’s face, so she almost instinctively reached out her hand towards his forehead.
She exclaimed in a low voice, was he having a fever? Just like last time he had a fever, and was delirious, calling her sis?
Mabel speculated in her heart, then quickly rummaged through the room for a thermometer to measure Kyle’s temperature.
Although he was having a fever, he was very obedient. She had him hold the thermometer in his mouth, and he did so obediently. When Mabel took out the thermometer to look at it, it was indeed already 38.5 degrees.
Mabel thought about the last time he had a fever, there were still some fever-reducing medicines that hadn’t been finished, so she got them out and said to him, "Here, Kyle, take the medicine first."
"Why should I take medicine?" he asked with those beautiful phoenix eyes.
