The high school classmates group chat has been quite active these days, naturally revolving around the topic of Katie asking Mabel Quinn for help.
There are, of course, those who want to curry favor with Lyra Grant, especially the few gossipy girls who often chat in the group. They almost unanimously declare that this matter is absolutely doomed to fail.
Some laugh at Mabel Quinn for overestimating herself, trying to help Katie, joking that she might end up biting her tongue from bragging too much. Others say that Katie must be out of her mind, and have no idea how Mabel Quinn managed to trick her.
In short, they’re all sitting around waiting for a good laugh, regardless of whether Katie is in the group or not.
Watching these chats every day, Lyra Grant feels refreshed, as if the grievances suffered in front of Mabel Quinn seem to fade significantly.
It’s just that Katie hasn’t said anything in the group, leaving Lyra Grant quite disappointed. She’s eager to see Katie devastated. Ideally, Katie would be crying and complaining about Mabel Quinn alongside her, which would be even better.
However, in the afternoon, a female classmate suddenly dropped a bombshell in the group chat, "Katie’s boyfriend has returned to his original job."
The news immediately caused an uproar in the group, and many who usually were sarcastic in the group now chimed in, "No way, wasn’t Katie’s boyfriend already dismissed by his company?"
"Yes, wasn’t it said that no other corporation wanted to hire Katie’s boyfriend?"
"Katie’s boyfriend offended Kyle Kinston, and Lyra said that not even her dad could keep him, so how could Mabel Quinn possibly get him back to his original company?"
Some even questioned, "You’re not spreading false rumors, are you?"
"I have a friend who works at that company, and today they swore to me that the guy came back to work. The company’s CEO even publicly welcomed him back as a former colleague. My friend even sent me a picture." The classmate who broke the news then posted a photo showing the company’s CEO with his arm around a man’s shoulder, smiling and saying something in front of everyone.
Those in the group who knew Katie’s boyfriend fell silent.
"Lyra, what’s going on? Didn’t you say Katie’s boyfriend was definitely getting kicked out of J City?" someone asked.
Sitting in front of her computer, Lyra Grant gritted her teeth. How could it be? Katie’s boyfriend actually managed to get back to his original company? It sounded like a joke.
"I don’t know either, maybe Katie found someone else to help her," Lyra Grant reluctantly typed a response.
There must be some mistake; such a thing couldn’t happen. How could Mabel Quinn possibly help Katie? Katie’s boyfriend offended Kyle Kinston, and if it was that easy to help, why would so many people fear Kyle Kinston?
However, by the end of the afternoon, when Lyra Grant personally saw Katie coming to find Mabel Quinn and repeatedly thanking her, she could no longer easily convince herself that the news was false.
"Katie, did your boyfriend really go back to his original company?" Lyra Grant asked, incredulously.
"Yes, my boyfriend went back to his company today," Katie said with a smile. "So I came over today specially to thank Mabel!"
