"Impossible, there’s no way Mabel Quinn could have helped you with this. Are you sure you thanked the right person?" Lyra Grant was unwilling to believe this fact.
But Katie insisted, "I didn’t thank the wrong person. I asked others, but they all refused. Only Mabel agreed to try to help me."
Katie was also in the high school group. Though she usually didn’t chat in the group, she read all the conversations. Naturally, she knew that many people in the group were waiting to see her make a fool of herself.
That’s why, when talking to Lyra Grant, she specifically pointed out that it was Mabel who helped her, not wanting her old classmate who helped her to be ridiculed by Lyra for no reason.
As she spoke, Katie expressed her gratitude to Mabel again.
Lyra Grant could no longer bother to fake a smile or pretend to be happy for Katie. She just glared hatefully at Mabel, "Mabel Quinn, how could you help Katie? Someone like you can’t even get an audience with Kyle Kinston, yet you managed to do Katie a favor?"
"How I helped Katie is my business, and it doesn’t concern you. I don’t need to explain the details to you. After all, the fact that Katie’s boyfriend is fine now is a good outcome," Mabel replied.
Lyra Grant ground her teeth loudly together; what a good outcome—this result felt like a slap in the face.
And more embarrassingly, everyone in their high school group knew about this, undoubtedly making her lose face in front of her high school classmates.
"What unnecessary to say? Could it be that something shady happened while you were helping, and you’re afraid to mention it?" Lyra Grant said, thinking more and more that this was likely. Otherwise, how could Mabel have managed this favor?
"Lyra Grant, how can you say that about Mabel?" Katie said angrily. Lyra didn’t help her, which she didn’t resent, but now, with a good outcome, Lyra still spoke . Anyone could hear the malice in her words.
Mabel pulled back Katie, who was about to charge forward, and then said to Lyra Grant, "You’re implying that when President Kinston agreed to spare Katie’s boyfriend, something shady happened? I wonder how President Kinston would react if he heard such insinuations."
Lyra Grant’s face turned pale instantly, "I was clearly talking about you!"
"But wasn’t this supposed to be a favor I asked President Kinston for?" Mabel smiled slightly.
After saying, "Don’t get too cocky," Lyra Grant stomped away heavily in her high heels.
In the evening, Mabel returned to Kinston’s residence and asked a servant, learning that Kyle Kinston was in his room.
She went to Kyle Kinston’s room door, lifted her hand, and knocked, inadvertently pushing the door open. It hadn’t been fully closed before, which was why she could easily push it open.
So she pushed the door a little further open and called, "President Kinston... are you there?"
The room was silent, with no one answering her.
Could it be that he’s not in the room? But the servant said he went straight to his room when he returned.
Mabel then walked into the room, and as she neared the bathroom, she suddenly heard a low moaning sound, as if mixed with deep pain.
And from the crack in the bathroom door’s light, it was clear the bathroom light was on.
