Facing an Ancient God for a Year Chapter 648

Chapter 648: Chapter 646: The Old Path (Six)_1 Chapter 648: Chapter 646: The Old Path (Six)_1 Jones’s suggestion, undoubtedly, drew many attentive gazes toward Fu Qian.

However, observing the complex looks of Kateman and the others, Fu Qian simply nodded, indicating he had no objections.

He had not been in a hurry to get into the car because he had already prepared himself for this.

Jones wanted to keep him under close watch, and Fu Qian also wished to gather more information.

Indeed, Jones not only pulled him into the car but even arranged for the suspect to sit next to the victim.

And facing the wooden expression of Harold coming his way, Fu Qian’s demeanor showed no anomaly, as he greeted him with a cheery smile.

This scene naturally caught Jones’s eye.

The next moment, his gaze shifted away from the rear-view mirror, and he looked out of the window without a word.

In the Chief’s eyes, the hopeless extent of his own situation, it seemed, had climbed another level.

Fu Qian silently mused over this and, following his lead, looked outside.

The young officer acting as the driver was strictly following Jones’s directions.

And the route arranged by Jones was unmistakably obvious; first, they turned into a fast-food restaurant then headed almost straight up the mountain.

What the few in the car behind were feeling, Fu Qian did not know, but he noticed Mr. Harold’s expression seemed a bit unnatural.

Could there be a hidden story?

For Jones to head straight here, it appeared to provoke a slightly unusual reaction from him.

Looking at the road outside becoming rapidly narrow and winding, an image naturally surfaced in Fu Qian’s mind.

On the road up the mountain, at a corner where the view of cars passing by was blocked, Mr. Harold quietly hid, waiting for the right moment.

Then, as a car passed by fast enough, he exerted force, pushing someone who was barely conscious out in one swift move.

It wasn’t too rare of an occurrence, though, while husbands are often the primary killers of women, this man didn’t seem like someone with the guts for it.

Fu Qian didn’t linger on his observations, because Chief Jones was already watching.

At this moment, the Chief was observing Harold’s reaction out of the corner of his eye, his expression becoming slightly more solemn.

This was the Chief’s actual job, and overstepping it wouldn’t be proper.

Perhaps sensing the change in atmosphere, the young officer ceased his cold jokes and drove with a stern face, not long after they had left.

Eventually, in the stiff atmosphere of the car, Jones signaled the driver to gradually slow down with his hands, until completely stopping at a certain spot.

And looking at the heavy skid marks on the ground, Jones couldn’t help but look back and size them up.

Regrettably, he saw no sign of panic from being caught on Fu Qian’s face.

Not only that, but the man had even naturally opened the door and stepped out of the car.

“Very heavy, very fresh skid marks, and the visibility here is poor too,”

Fu Qian, seemingly oblivious to Jones’s changing expression, played the role of a volunteer with much involvement.

The Chief looked at him deeply.

Fu Qian turned his head, his gaze landing on a particular spot nearby.

The vegetation in this area was quite dense, and in one place by the roadside, clearly broken twigs could be seen.

“Good, let’s wait for them to come up,”

Jones commented briefly, without saying much more.

Finding that the car ahead had stopped here, Kateman and the others hesitated visibly as they got out.

They even involuntarily glanced at the spot Fu Qian had pointed to earlier while approaching.

Indeed, too young, a thief must never betray his anxiety!

Although Fu Qian found it hard to comprehend why the style of the story had changed so swiftly,

there was no doubt that the behavior of the group at this moment was classic.

“We’ve found a suspicious spot.”

Jones did not give anyone much time to ponder, stating matters straightforwardly, even casting a glance at Harold.

Clearly, if this were truly the scene of an incident, the reason Mrs. Harrold was here would undoubtedly be a matter of deep contemplation.

“The vicinity needs to be searched, follow me.”

Although he said this, Jones did not make specific arrangements for the volunteers, but simply led the way.

To follow him was clearly his emphasis, especially for Fu Qian.

Despite appearing to be a prime volunteer, Jones clearly disliked Fu Qian’s style and would never let him out of sight.

Following the dubious signs inward, the ground underfoot could hardly be called a path.

But amidst the dense foliage, Jones soon squatted down, having found yet more trampled plants.

Following such traces, the line of people moved forward and finally discovered special marks about dozens of meters from the roadside.

It was a small clearing that looked like a collapsed grave that must have been quite ancient.

However, this time, the grave was covered with big boughs that had been bent down, and importantly, the marks were quite fresh.

“Youngsters always lack patience.”

Jones harrumphed and made a gesture to the young officer to remove the coverings, all the while observing Fu Qian’s reaction.

Regrettably, he soon realized that Fu Qian was actually full of anticipation, without any sign of panic.

Instead, the group behind him had uniformly interesting expressions on their faces.

With some disappointment, Jones turned back and watched coldly as the branches and leaves were moved aside.

To his surprise, as the officer cleared away most of the covering, he shook his head while reporting back to Jones.

Indeed, there was nothing.

Watching the last layer of leaves being peeled back to reveal sediment that had accumulated for who knows how many years, Jones was momentarily speechless.

Meanwhile, it seemed like everyone else breathed a collective sigh of relief.

After being stunned for a while, Jones came back to his senses and gestured for the group to stay put, somewhat incredulous, he made a round along the clearing.

Unfortunately, it was disappointing that besides the way they had come, no other traces were found.

For a moment, Chief Jones stood there in the original spot, silent.

Fu Qian, however, could understand his feelings very well.

Despite mocking the young for their lack of patience, this seemingly crude handling was quite a good response for a youngster caught in an accident.

If it hadn’t been for an experienced leader like Jones, it would be hard to imagine them finding this place so quickly.

Even if Fu Qian put himself in their shoes, without knowing the environment nearby, he didn’t think it was too bad of a choice.

Yet, after all the suspicions, there was no body as imagined, not a trace, which was indeed a bit strange.

At the same time, the behavior itself was incomprehensible.

If it wasn’t for hiding a body, it was hard to imagine how these traces had been created.

Laying a false trail? That would be a little too professional!

Even if Harold had purchased a hit, such a dedicated hitman would be hard to come by.

“It looks like we need more volunteers.”

The next moment Fu Qian spoke up, seriously delivering his opinion.
