Alan stood there, shaking with fright, cautiously sizing up Maxwell Peary.
Maxwell didn’t even glance at Alan; he just changed his position and continued on the phone.
"Be careful out there."
Nia Mitchell was in Evelyn Peary’s car. She had just gotten in when she received a call from Maxwell, before she even had a chance to say much to Evelyn.
"I know, I’m just going window shopping."
Nia was a bit annoyed. Why hadn’t I noticed before how long-winded he is?
"Don’t ignore my words. Buy whatever you want; don’t worry about saving me money."
Maxwell put down his pen, stood up, and walked over to a sofa to sit down.
"I know, I know, stop nagging! I’m not a child anymore."
Nia kept sticking her tongue out, thoroughly frustrated. Even going out means being managed!
Evelyn sat rigidly in the car, her gaze constantly sweeping over Nia.
Oh my god! This is surreal! Is that really my sister-in-law on the phone with my brother? No, no, my brother isn’t the type to chatter away on the phone. He... would he, who wears a scowl all day, really say such ridiculous things to Nia? No way. It’s impossible for Maxwell to say things like that!
Poor Evelyn. She had witnessed Maxwell’s change last time but had completely forgotten about it today.
Evelyn was on pins and needles, constantly turning her head to look at Nia sitting beside her.
ARGH! I have so many questions! Nia, can you please just hang up the phone already?
"You need to focus on your work too. I won’t disturb you any longer. I’m hanging up now."

Without saying anything more to him, Nia didn’t give Maxwell a chance to refuse; she abruptly hung up the phone.
Alan watched as Maxwell sat on the sofa, his expression suddenly shifting, and Alan’s heart pounded nervously.
What’s happening? Boss, are you finally going to blow up? I knew you wouldn’t let me off easy. I knew your gentle side was only for sister-in-law! Maxwell is still the same old Maxwell. Damn it, he hasn’t changed a bit!
Maxwell put down his phone and glanced at Alan, who was standing to one side.
"What are you doing?"
Alan was stunned. "..."
"B-Boss, weren’t you... you..."
Alan was momentarily speechless. Weren’t we just discussing something before he stepped out? Why is he suddenly asking me what *I’m* doing? Shouldn’t *you* be telling *me* what I’m supposed to do?
Maxwell frowned, looking up at Alan, who was standing there with his mouth agape.
"What are you doing in my office if you have no business here?"
Alan almost spat out a mouthful of blood on the spot.
"If you have nothing to do, then leave."
Maxwell waved his hand dismissively; he had no time to wonder why Alan had come.
Nia actually hung up on me again! Damn it, I hadn’t even finished speaking!
Alan was still standing there, his mouth twitching.
