After hanging up the phone, Nia Mitchell patted her heart. That scared me to death! What kind of expression could Uncle Peary have right now?
Just the thought of his angry face made Nia shudder.
But luckily for her, the mountains were high and the emperor was far away—out of sight, out of mind for now.
Evelyn Peary gulped, her hands on the steering wheel shaking slightly.
"You actually dared to hang up on my older brother?"
Evelyn Peary finally found her normal tone, her voice rising sharply, startling Nia.
A frown crept onto Nia Mitchell’s face. Why did I impulsively hang up on Maxwell just because I didn’t want to listen to his incessant jabbering? My brain must have short-circuited, causing me to act so rashly.
Nia bit her lip in annoyance, sitting there, not knowing what to do.
Evelyn Peary looked at Nia in surprise. Regret?
Nia nodded incessantly. Yes, yes, so much regret.
"Evelyn, you know your brother well, don’t you?"
Evelyn raised an eyebrow. Am I familiar with Maxwell? Well, no one ever knows what Maxwell is thinking. I certainly can’t figure him out. But speaking of familiarity, I’m probably the closest to him, even though I don’t really understand him at all.
"Evelyn, if your brother is angry, what should I do?"
Nia, eager for advice, turned her whole body towards Evelyn.
"Angry? I remember once when I upset my older brother, he locked me in my room and starved me for two whole days."
Just the thought of that incident made Evelyn hopping mad.
Thankfully, her mother was sharp enough to secretly give her food.

Nia was completely terrified. Oh no, the CEO is so harsh even to his own sister. I’m totally doomed then. I don’t want to go back. Maybe I should take his credit card and make a run for it.
"Yeah, he actually starved me for two days." Even now, Evelyn grew furious just thinking about it and felt like confronting her older brother.
"Do you know, sister-in-law? That’s not even the worst part. When I accused him of trying to murder his own sister, he actually said he’d forgotten."
Evelyn pounded the steering wheel a few times. He’d actually forgotten! Was I even his real sister?
Nia was stunned. Wait, forgotten? So, Uncle Peary had such an adorably clueless side to him too.
"What are you laughing at?"
After Evelyn finished speaking, she was curious. Why isn’t sister-in-law sympathizing with me? Based on how regretful Nia looked after hanging up, she should be infuriated. She should be joining me in cursing Maxwell, that tyrant! But why, when I turned to look at Nia, did I see her laughing instead? Just as I thought, the kind of person my brother is interested in is just like him.
"I’m laughing at your brother for having such a poor memory."
A smile touched Nia’s lips, and she chuckled again.
"So, do you know what I should do? Otherwise, I might not be able to go back."
Nia bit her lip. When I get back, I’ll have to face Uncle Peary’s fury all alone. Just imagining Uncle Peary’s grim expression makes my legs tremble.
"Well, a solution... If it were me, I’d just be waiting for death, but..."
Evelyn Peary looked at Nia with a mischievous smile.
"But if it’s you, it’s different."
"Simple. When you get back, shower him with sweet words, maybe tumble in the sheets a bit, and I guarantee my brother will be so delighted he’ll forget everything else."
