Nia Mitchell happily gave Maxwell Peary a sweet kiss, then trotted upstairs to take a bath, humming joyfully. She felt so good; it was as if her aching back and legs were completely fine. She was utterly relaxed!
Seeing Nia Mitchell humming a little tune as she went upstairs, a resigned smile touched Maxwell Peary’s lips. So easily satisfied?
As he turned to head back to the study, he noticed Alan Morgan looking at him with a strange expression.
Smoothing out the clothes Nia Mitchell had wrinkled by hugging and pulling at them, he spoke to Alan Morgan, his tone clipped.
Alan Morgan nodded. Alright, so no looking allowed. But he was curious!
"Boss, is that the little sister-in-law?"
"What on earth are you talking about?"
Maxwell Peary turned and gave Alan Morgan a speechless look. This guy’s worldview is seriously messed up.
"She just thinks it’s fun."
He’d never admit that the girl had been calling him that since they first met. Was he really that old? It was just that his clothes and demeanor were a bit more mature, that’s all.
Alan Morgan raised an eyebrow. Fun, huh? The little sister-in-law really is one of a kind. If anyone else called him that, they’d have been dealt with long ago. So, the Boss does play favorites!
"So, Boss, you got married?"
No way! Boss, when Owen Lewis and Annie Davidson got married, you said they were jumping into their graves. How come you’ve taken the plunge yourself now?
How could the three of you leave poor me all alone in the realm of bachelorhood?

"Yes, we got our marriage certificate yesterday. And yes, sooner than Owen and Annie."
Maxwell Peary added as an afterthought.
Owen Lewis and Annie Davidson had their wedding first and planned to register their marriage after returning from their honeymoon.
Boss, were you just trying to beat them to it by quickly getting a certificate?
"But Boss, I’d never heard you mention knowing a girl like her before."
And you’ve already reached the point of marriage! That kind of relationship doesn’t develop overnight.
Maxwell Peary opened the study door, looking at Alan Morgan. He found Alan’s intense curiosity rather odd.
"We only met the night before last."
Alan Morgan silently gave him a thumbs-up in his mind. He was thoroughly impressed.
As if remembering the shootout from six years ago, Maxwell Peary suddenly chuckled.
"However, six years ago, I saved her life. This is her repaying that debt by devoting herself to me, a promise six years in the making."
Alan Morgan almost choked, trying to suppress his amusement. Boss, you’re quite the comedian these days!
"Boss, have you noticed? When you talk about the little sister-in-law, your whole face lights up, and your eyes are full of smiles."
This was a side of Maxwell Peary he’d never shown before.
Maxwell Peary paused, surprised. He reached up to touch his face. Really? Was I smiling?
"Also, Boss, does the main family residence know about your marriage? And Belinda Swan...?"
Maxwell Peary waved a dismissive hand, cutting him off. His expression instantly turned cold.
"The main family couldn’t interfere with my marriage before, and they can’t now. As for Belinda Swan, there has never been anything between us."

Maxwell Peary cursed inwardly. He didn’t even know what was making him so agitated. It was just that the thought of Rabina Mitchell upstairs, naked and soaking in the bath, made his mind race and his pulse quicken. He couldn’t help but recall the divine sensations of last night.
