More warm tears rolled down her palm, her eyelashes trembled lightly, like a blade cutting through his heart.
"I’ll get you something to eat."
The man didn’t turn on the light; he just turned around, opened the door, and left.
Daisy Ginger sat alone on the dimly lit bed, in a strange country, with unfamiliar air and unfamiliar rooms. She hugged her legs and buried her face in her knees, like an animal trapped in a snare, unable to stop trembling.
She couldn’t stop, couldn’t calm down. Once the sounds around her disappeared, she couldn’t help but think of that white tombstone without a photo or name, of the time that ended in 201X.
She dared not think about it, dared not wonder whose ashes were inside.
Maybe Robert Stephens was deceiving her, her "Edward" hadn’t died, just been completely hidden away by them. She could only think in that direction, otherwise she really wouldn’t know what to do...

To prevent her from jumping out the window to escape again, Edward Stephens stayed in the room, keeping an eye on her.
Daisy was already exhausted, the blows of recent days had squeezed her emotions to the extreme. After eating the noodles, she fell into a deep sleep.
Then, she woke up screaming from a nightmare.
The light clicked on with a "switch," and sitting on the sofa, Edward looked up at her.
Daisy was covered in cold sweat, gasping as she sat up from the bed.
Then, as if collapsing, she slowly hugged her head, letting out low sobbing sounds.
Edward walked over, looking at her protruding spine and thin shoulders, a faint tenderness in his eyes.
To be honest, he couldn’t bear to see her suffering so much. After all, she was his woman, and if possible, he wanted to keep this secret hidden forever.
But now that the truth was revealed, there was no point in hiding anything.
It was a path she must go through, the pain she was destined to endure. Once she got through it, they could start anew.
Life was still so long, and she couldn’t keep a dead man in her heart forever.
The man’s eyes were deep, as he slowly raised his hand and placed it on her thick, fluffy hair.
Then his fingertips gently moved downwards, softly pinching her bone-protruding neck.
Only when she cried until exhausted and fell asleep did she finally quiet down.
He held Daisy naked, took a shower in the bathroom, then called someone in to change the bedsheets, before he embraced her and lay down on the bed.
She curled up in his arms, bullied so badly that her nose was red, tears hung at the corners of her eyes, as aggrieved as a little animal that had been scolded.
The feelings gained through deceit wouldn’t last.
He should have known long ago.
When her gaze fell on him, what she saw was always that man who had been dead for a long time.
There never was a supposed substitute.
Her every expression, every joy and anger, was never directed at him.
Between them, it was she who reached out first, but in the end, it was he who first moved his heart.
