Surprised by the unexpected answer, Xu Tianyu was taken aback. Su Sigui simply smiled and didn’t utter a word; quietly accepting and putting on the coat Xu Tianyu handed to her.
"Take this and study it."
Xu Tianyu accepted a bottle covertly passed to him by Su Sigui. In the bottle wafted strands of dark mist, emitted by the Zombie King and somehow captured by Su Sigui.
Not a single zombie could be seen in the Central Crown City Area anymore. All that remained were puddles of black and human blood, and piles of corpses heaped haphazardly, resembling a small mountain.
A stench of rot permeated the air. Trash cans by the streetside were brimming with bodies rotten to blackened bones, with maggots writhing in their decayed flesh. There was a gaping hole in the side of a nearby building, the aftermath of the recent battle. Occasional dust particles fell from the hole, suggesting that it wouldn’t be long before the building collapsed completely.
The twin brass pillars on either side no longer emitted a white smoke. Su Sigui waved at Xu Tianyu, signaling him to leave.
"Mr. Mayor, you should..."
"Prepare everything and get ready to leave."
Being interrupted mid-sentence, all Xu Tianyu could do is nod in response, casting a glance at Su Sigui as she walked away.
Arriving at the foot of a building, Su Sigui looked up to see a young man sitting nearby, scrutinizing her with a curious gaze.
Just one look was enough for her to recognize him. It’s him...
Pitter patter! Pitter patter! Pitter patter...!
As the footsteps gradually approached, Tang Ye subdued the last bit of dark mist in his palm. Taking a deep breath, he turned to look at the approaching figure, Su Sigui. She was wearing an overcoat as her own clothes had been ripped off earlier.
The overcoat was a little too large for her and the baby-faced look made her rather attractive. However, the baggy pants she wore robbed her of some of her beauty.
"You look quite good, huh."
Su Sigui didn’t respond.
"How about some betel nuts, beauty?"
"No? Pass them to Ah Fu."
Chucking to himself, Tang Ye handed a few betel nuts to Su Sigui. Seeing her face twitch, he then passed them to Ah Fu, who stared at Su Sigui with barely suppressed bloodlust.
Apparently, he was still sore over the fact that Su Sigui had nearly gravely injured his clone. Being an ordinary person in terms of intellect, Ah Fu was not adept at masking his emotions; whatever was on his mind would show on his face.
Su Sigui simply ignored him and began tying up her loose hair into pigtails that she rested upon her shoulders. This new look made her more attractive. The earlier impression she gave of being ready to unsheathe her sword at any moment had now transformed into that of a youthful and pretty modern-day girl.
"Ah Fu, what are you doing? We’re civilized people, and I expect you to behave as such!"
Seeing Ah Fu’s reaction, Tang Ye was infuriated. Despite the many lessons he’d given Ah Fu over the past few days, Ah Fu had hardly changed.
Despite his suit, Ah Fu didn’t appear sophisticated. Although his muscular build didn’t lend well to a refined look, he could at least try to behave more human-like. These sudden fits of behaving like a zombie would otherwise totally betray his true nature.
Tang Ye kicked Ah Fu, who then scratched his head in confusion and didn’t look at Su Sigui with hostility anymore. He took the betel nuts and began to chew them thoroughly after tearing the packaging.
She didn’t know how to react anymore. Ever since her upgrade to a Level 3 New Human in her previous incarnation, she had never seen anyone behave this way.
The man before her might seem like a reckless punk, but only she knew that at the beginning of the Apocalypse he was a formidable figure. Exactly how formidable? Probably even the Level 9 New Humans of the later eras didn’t reach his level of ruthlessness.
Looking at the man before her, Su Sigui’s long dormant memories surfaced, and she started to remember things about him.
She muttered to herself. If she hadn’t appeared, he would probably be the most powerful person in the post-apocalyptic era by now.
He is a cruel man, who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He was a terror from the early to mid-post-apocalyptic era and was even the due cause for the rise of the anti-human organization.
It was him who led his own force to do things only the zombies were capable of - attacking survivor bases, all for his own expansion.
It was because he started attacking survivor bases that a trend of infighting erupted. Numerous survivor bases began attacking each other to plunder resources, leading to the eventual formation of the anti-human organization which, harboring the bodies of humans, carried out deeds of zombies.
This brutal man was believed to be the leader of the anti-human organization. But in fact, Li Henian had nothing to do with the anti-human organization. He was merely pursuing his own self-interests. There were many cases like his, but Li Henian’s actions were extremely ruthless.
Conquering survivor bases would have been forgivable, but the massacre of innocents and even threatening to wipe out entire cities were acts that were too brutal!
It was his brutality which turned him into a dictator amongst the survivor bases he ruled. Any force that opposed him was systematically annihilated, employing methods that would send shivers down anyone’s spine.
Ironically, this man of extreme brutality was a pacifist! And his pacifism didn’t just apply to humans, but to zombies too.
’Pacifist’ as an appellation sounded very harmonious, but his idea of peace was one between humans and zombies. Su Sigui couldn’t understand how he came up with such an idea.
This ridiculous idea seemed impossible to achieve, but in the later era, no one could make an accurate judgment about whether Li Henian had actually succeeded.
Perhaps he had succeeded, perhaps he had not.
However, it was certain that each survivor base was located far apart from each other. Even the closest ones were in different cities. The journey constraining the trade routes encountering countless zombies were enough to drive people to despair, let alone the prospect of a war.
Even during the late stages of the Apocalypse, the anti-human organizations dared not rashly attack the survivor bases. Often, they would only plunder small groups of survivors living within the cities.
Engaging in a war against a survivor base would mean encountering hordes of zombies along the way, causing the anti-human organization’s troops to suffer heavy losses. It was a business loss. Only a fool would opt for such a plan.
But Li Henian was different. When he attacked a survivor base, the number of men he had on departure was the exact number of men who arrived. It was as if the zombies along the way didn’t even exist!
Even if this legend of a man had disappeared in the middle and later stages, right now, after her battle with the Zombie King, she had encountered him, which inevitably made one wonder...
