Li Mo hurriedly got up and ran toward the door, not forgetting to turn back and say a word to them.
"Xingxing, Uncle is off to work. You all should rest early. Be good."
Li Mo didn’t even wait for their response before he dashed out.
The anxious Ye Xiu outside froze for a moment when she heard the name Xingxing, then assumed it must be someone with the same name. Her Xingxing was still at home.
Because a student suddenly had stomach pain, she and two other teachers brought the student to see a doctor.
Li Mo quickly conducted a check-up and diagnosed acute gastroenteritis. The patient needed an IV, and it just so happened to be in Bai Zhi’s ward.
After writing the prescription, Li Mo instructed them to take the student to the ward.
Li Mo still had to write the medical record. He was originally on the day shift but had switched shifts for Bai Zhi, something Bai Xin was aware of.
Wu Wa was closely watching the IV treatment because it contained a sedative, so each time Bai Zhi would soon fall asleep, drowsy and confused. Wu Wa had to wait until the infusion was finished.
Soon after, two teachers came in carrying the boy, followed by a nurse.
"Have him lie down. Have you paid the fees? Once you’ve paid, come to me and I’ll prepare the medication for a skin test."
The nurse spoke very softly, afraid of disturbing Bai Zhi. The entire department knew about the poor girl with needles in her body, placed there by her own father.
"Thank you, nurse. My colleague has gone to pay. The child is in such severe pain, can you prescribe something for pain relief?"
Another teacher spoke up, noting the boy was sweating from the pain.
"Only the doctor can decide if that’s possible. Please keep your voices down; there are other patients here."
The nurse quietly explained. Ye Xiu had paid the fees and saw the nurse as soon as she entered, who happened to be standing in front of Bai Zhi.
"Nurse, I’ve paid already, so we can prepare the medication now."
After speaking, Ye Xiu immediately moved toward the student.
"Xianxian, don’t worry. Your teacher has paid, and you’ll feel better soon."
Ye Xiu, concerned, tucked the student Xianxian in and looked around the room, preparing to pour some water for the student. But as she looked across the room, she froze completely.
Her Xingxing was lying on the bed opposite, with an IV hooked up, and there was only the child Wu Wa beside her.
A sourness surged up her nose, and tears burst forth; she opened her mouth but couldn’t utter a single word.
The teacher beside her thought Ye Xiu was worried about the student and quickly began to comfort her.
"Don’t worry, we arrived very timely. Xianxian will be alright."
Ye Xiu shook her head forcefully. Her heart ached terribly, piercing like a needle, throbbing repeatedly. She slowly walked towards the opposite side.
Wu Wa saw Ye Xiu while they were speaking and instantly beamed with a wide smile.
"Auntie, it’s so good that you’re here. Ah Zhi can be saved. Watch over her for me; I’ll go call Uncle Li."
Wu Wa hurriedly got up and ran to Li Mo’s office, knowing that Ye Xiu’s arrival meant that Ah Zhi could undergo surgery to remove the needles.
Tears blurred Ye Xiu’s eyes so much that she couldn’t see her daughter clearly.
Her Xingxing, how could she be here, lying with closed eyes?
She opened her mouth, and the words that came out were particularly hoarse.
She reached out her hand to touch Bai Zhi’s hand, and at that moment, her heart ached even more.
