He Jingyao smiled, “Alright, since you like it.”
Su Zixi, feeling rarely assertive, was filled with a sense of accomplishment. Just as she was about to press the play button, the theater’s internal phone rang.
He Jingyao frowned slightly, showing some displeasure.
Su Zixi reluctantly picked up the phone and greeted, “Hello?”
“Young Mistress.” It was Uncle Li’s voice. He paused before continuing, “Please tell the young master that the master is waiting for him downstairs.”
Su Zixi was greatly surprised, “The master?”
“Yes, father is back,” He Jingyao gently rubbed her head, “I’ll go down for a moment and will be right back.”
“Should I also go down to meet him?” Su Zixi was a bit panicked.
He Jingyao chuckled, “Don’t worry, I’ll arrange a formal meeting for you two in a couple of days. Today is not a good time.”
Relieved, Su Zixi smiled and said, “Then go ahead, I’ll wait for you here.”
When He Jingyao reached the downstairs, he saw He Yirong sitting on the sofa, scowling.
He gave a faint smile and walked over to hand him a cup of hot tea, “What brings you here? Where is Miss Ye?”
“You still have the nerve to ask,” He Yirong glared at him irritably, “I sent her back to the hotel. Tell me, leaving me alone to dine with a young lady, is that proper?”
“She is your guest,” He Jingyao glanced at him.
“Jingyao, she is not just any woman. Even if you didn’t have that problem, Ye Shutong is the best marriage prospect you could find! Don’t take her for granted!” He Yirong glared at him.
“Father, you really think highly of me,” He Jingyao replied with a half smile, “You speak as though she’s very eager to marry me.”
He Yirong huffed, “If she hadn’t hinted at that, would I have arranged for you two to dine together?”
He Jingyao’s gaze narrowed slightly, “Then, how do you know I might be immune to her? I’m quite certain I’ve never met her.”
“You have met, just that you’re unaware of it,” He Yirong said smugly, “It was when you went to Brussels for that summit. Shutong was there too; she came with Mr. Ye Ninghai. Didn’t you have a lunch with Mr. Ye once? At that time, Shutong was there too, although you didn’t notice her.”
“If there were women around, it’s impossible that I wouldn’t have noticed,” He Jingyao said expressionlessly.
“Haha, because she arrived first, staying with Mr. Ye’s assistant. YOU arrived later; since you weren’t uncomfortable, naturally you wouldn’t notice whether there was a woman around,” He Yirong chuckled and shook his head, “It’s just fate. He Yirong spoke with a tone full of satisfaction.
He Jingyao raised an eyebrow, “The Brussels incident, as you said, might be a coincidence, a matter of fate. But Ye Shutong making efforts to get close to you, to get to know you, and letting you know about it, certainly wasn’t a coincidence. Can’t you see that?”
“Of course, I can see that! That’s why I took the initiative to invite her to Yanzhou City!” He Yirong stated emphatically, “If I didn’t think she was interested in you, would I rashly arrange for you two to meet?”
