With two hours to go before the dinner at the President Mansion, Su Zixi was making her final preparations.

A maid was helping her put on earrings, followed by a necklace and a bracelet. Su Zixi looked at herself in the mirror, and after a moment’s thought, she took off the bracelet.

“Young Mistress, you look so beautiful,” the maid complimented her sincerely.

“Let’s go,” she said and left the dressing room.

Looking up, He Jingyao was standing at the end of the staircase waiting for her.
The man had a frosty demeanor, his thin lips pressed together and his eyes dark and intense.
Su Zixi felt somewhat bashful and looked down, “Don’t I look okay?”
He Jingyao’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, and he took one step closer—a distance that allowed him to casually envelop her, “No, you look very nice.”
But his voice was somewhat stern.
“Jingyao… you don’t need to worry about me, really…”
“Hmph,” he pinched her earlobe, “listen, if anyone bullies you, don’t tolerate it. I can handle any trouble that comes your way.”
Su Zixi obediently nodded.
The man suddenly frowned, his voice even more rigid, “Forget it, you won’t listen anyway!”
Unless there was a real problem, she would never tell him any grievances, much less trouble him.

The President Mansion was brightly lit under the descending night.
Su Zixi got out of the car, handed over her invitation, and was soon led inside by a court lady.
