He Jingyao gave her a deep look and pinched her chin, “Let’s go, time to eat.”
Su Zixi quickly nodded her head.
Upon entering the dining room, Su Zixi couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the brass hot pot on the table and rubbed her eyes in disbelief.
She looked at He Jingyao in astonishment, “Hot pot?”
“Hmm,” the man smiled slightly, “Isn’t it quite fitting to eat hot pot in winter?”
Yangdong City had experienced a drop in temperature over the past few days, freezing enough to chill anyone to the bone when going outside.
Su Zixi was both excited and hesitant, “But can you handle it?”
“Su Zixi, do you really think I’m that fragile?” he narrowed his eyes dangerously.
She hurriedly shook her head, “That’s not what I meant… If you can eat it, then I’ll help you cook it!”
What could be more perfect than hot pot in winter!
Once they were seated, Su Zixi promptly prepared several different sauces, lining them up in front of her, then picked two lighter flavored ones for He Jingyao.
Then she started cooking the meat, happily bustling about.
The man watched her intently as she focused on putting ingredients into the hot pot, his eyes brimming with a hint of amusement and a very tender warmth.
“This lamb is of such great quality!” Su Zixi tasted a piece, full of praise, and quickly cooked another slice for He Jingyao’s bowl, “The meat is ready as soon as it changes color, and it’s sliced very thin… try it, quickly!”
The man hummed a response and gracefully picked up his chopsticks, dabbed a bit of sauce, and tasted it.
Su Zixi watched him expectantly.
After swallowing the meat, he rubbed her head in approval, “Perfectly cooked.”
“Of course! Yushan always dragged me along for hot pot; she loves meat and can really pack it away. I’d cook from the beginning to the end, and she’d eat from start to finish,” Su Zixi said with pride.
“Su Zixi, do you actually enjoy being taken advantage of?” He Jingyao looked at her with a half-smile.
She had turned being ordered around into something she sounded proud of.
Su Zixi felt a bit embarrassed, “No, not really. It makes me happy to see her enjoy it, and I don’t eat much anyway. So, I like cooking for you too.”
As she spoke, she cooked another slice of beef and placed it in his bowl.
He Jingyao laughed softly and accepted the beef into his mouth once again.
In the rising steam of the hot pot, Su Zixi’s cheeks were flushed red and her eyes shone brightly, as if the small act brought her immense satisfaction.
He Jingyao felt a sudden pang.
When he came back to his senses, his bowl was nearly overflowing.
He Jingyao abandoned the restraint he had kept for the past few days, and tormented her rather fiercely.
Su Zixi pleaded for mercy for a long time before he finally let her off.
“You cooked so much lamb for me, wasn’t that your aim?” Seeing her panting and barely alive, the man chuckled in her ear, “Lamb is good for virility; don’t tell me you didn’t know.”
Su Zixi blushed deeply.
She knew, of course! But she hadn’t given it much thought at all!
Who eats hot pot without lamb!
He bit her lips softly and said huskily, “If you want it, just say so.”
“Hmm? You want it?” he teased with a playful look.
Su Zixi dared not speak another word, merely shook her head and wrapped herself tightly in the blanket.
He Jingyao chuckled and finally spared her.
Su Zixi then carefully snuggled into his embrace, her lips curved into a sweet smile.
Moderation was still to be encouraged, but an occasionally indulgent He Jingyao made her feel even more secure.
