Taking advantage of his stunned state, Lu Qixi broke free from his grip and walked over to hold Xiaobao in her arms.
"It’s okay, Xiaobao, don’t worry," she soothed softly.
"Qixi, who is he, should we call the police?" the little one asked, frowning worriedly.
"You even know to call the police," Lu Qixi said with a smile, patting his head.
Ning Yichen looked at her smiling face and asked in a low voice, "Lu Qixi, what’s going on here? Who is this child?"
"He’s a little fan of mine; he lives nearby," Lu Qixi explained with a smile. "I invited him over, so I couldn’t attend the dinner tonight."
Ning Yichen’s gaze lingered on the little boy.
The child had delicate and beautiful features, which somehow looked familiar to him.

She couldn’t remember how many times she had clashed with Ning Yichen; it seemed like she had to argue with him over every trivial matter lately, with each conversation colder than the last. This time, she almost told him outright she wanted to cut ties, but the man still didn’t take it to heart, as if she were just a child who didn’t know any better.
As his position climbed higher, he became more and more domineering. This dominance was subtle yet always left her feeling utterly powerless.

After eating, Lu Qixi sat on the couch with Xiaobao watching TV, when the doorbell rang again soon after.
When she went to open it, standing outside was a handsome young man. Catching sight of the man’s gray-blue eyes, she paused.
"Hello, I’m here to pick up Xiaobao," Pei Yuanchen said languidly. "I’m his uncle."
Hearing his voice, Xiaobao cheered and threw himself into the man’s arms: "Uncle!"
Pei Yuanchen lifted him up, looked at Lu Qixi, and said with a raised eyebrow, "Thank you, Miss Lu. I’ll take him now."
