The scientific researchers watched, dumbstruck.
They knew about the hardness of the crystals, and yet someone’s hands could smash them just like that.
"You... you must be an Awakener."
As the researcher spoke these words, the muscle-bound man glared at him furiously.
"And what’s an Awakener?"
The researcher trembled in fear, having long been scared out of his wits, "It’s someone with abilities that surpass those of ordinary people. Some are incredibly strong, others are really fast, all sorts of strange and peculiar abilities."
"It’s true then, my strength is exceptionally great, I can twist steel. Now tell me, what else do you know?" the strong man asked menacingly.
The researcher looked at the muscle-bound man, then at the surrounding survivors with predatory eyes. He felt that the mental states of these survivors were quite off, like normal people stranded on a deserted island who, over time, had been driven mad by their loneliness, acting crazed and deranged.
These people all seemed to be like that.
The researcher felt something touching his leg, sticky and wet. Looking down, he saw a survivor hunched on the ground, licking his leg, even showing an indulgent expression.
The shriek of the researcher pierced the air as he trembled all over.
Looking through the window, he saw nothing but desolation, no buildings of human civilization, not even a zombie in sight.
"Now tell me, what else do you know? You should be aware that they all like to eat human flesh, and your tender skin is our favorite," said the strong man, as he sinisterly smiled, hugging the scientist’s head and licking his face.
This action made the researcher feel extremely disgusted.
He even felt as though perversion was at his very side.
Stuttering, the researcher said, "Awakeners who swallow crystals become stronger. I have told you everything I know, please let me go."
The muscle-bound man fixed his gaze on the researcher, then glanced at the crystal nearby, smiling. He picked up one crystal, pried open the scientist’s mouth, and stuffed it inside.
"You eat first, show me."
The researcher struggled.
"Don’t, don’t, if non-Awakeners swallow crystals, they will die."
The strong man shoved the crystal into his mouth.
The researcher’s body began convulsing, with thick blood oozing from his mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. The mad survivors who witnessed this began whooping and hollering like monkeys, clapping their hands as they watched.
Looking at the researcher’s miserable state, the strong man commented, "It turns out you were right, non-Awakeners really can’t eat these."
The survivor who had been licking the researcher felt very uncomfortable.
"Had I known he would die, I would have cut off his legs to eat instead," he lamented.
The survivors of Sunshine District stopped what they were doing and watched Lin Fan. He was seen grabbing bars of iron and moving them towards the distance, then placing these bars further away to block off roads.
They knew this meant an expansion of the living area.
At the same time, some survivors realized that Sunshine District was indeed becoming a real home for the living.
While Lin Fan was busy,
Officer Huang and Dongdong leisurely walked from a distance, entering the Sunshine Shelter, looking around and fixing their gaze on the busy Lin Fan.
"Officer Huang, good morning."
Even though Lin Fan was very busy, he still stopped to smile and greet the officer.
Officer Huang glanced briefly and walked away.
"Is Officer Huang not in a good mood?" Lin Fan wondered.
He figured he could understand; just like how women have those few uncomfortable days each month, men must have such times too.
It’s all about mutual understanding between people.
He certainly wouldn’t get mad just because Officer Huang didn’t greet him back.
"Dongdong, good morning."
Lin Fan greeted Dongdong as well.
See that? Officer Huang must be in a bad mood. Didn’t you notice how Dongdong greeted me so friendly?
"Dongdong, would you like to read with a bunch of kids tomorrow?"
He believed that reading was something every child should do.
So what if Dongdong was a zombie?
He still had the right to read.
Dongdong looked at Lin Fan, "Hehe."
As if he truly understood, the tone of his voice a little higher than before.
"Oh, you’re happy, looking forward to it. I’ll arrange it for you tomorrow."
Lin Fan smiled, feeling as though he had done another good deed. Of course, it couldn’t be separated from Dongdong’s love for reading; otherwise, an average child would surely cry and scream in refusal.
Upon reflection, he found that the children of the Sunshine Shelter were all fond of reading.
Under his guidance, there had yet to be a child who resisted the idea of reading.
The surrounding survivors were astounded.
Could it be this domineering?
Even zombies have to read.
To be honest, had they not seen it with their own eyes, it would be beyond their imagination.
Officer Huang truly patrolled the shelter, and the survivors’ fear of Huang had dropped to the lowest point. They felt somewhat relieved, thinking Officer Huang wouldn’t hurt them.
Lin Fan had already told them.
If conflicts arise, go to Officer Huang for resolution. You may not trust anyone else, but please believe in Officer Huang’s fairness.
The folks always reminded themselves.
It’s best to be forgiving, avoid conflict, and refrain from arguing. Otherwise, if they really did bring Officer Huang into it, everyone would panic.
Lin Fan put all the iron bars in place. The crystals he had accumulated over time were now put to good use, strengthening the bars. Without the reinforcement of the crystals, bars might collapse from just one hit by a Powerful Zombie or a tyrant creature.
