The flames dispelled the darkness, illuminating the surrounding environment.
Dai Quan and his companions looked around in horror, not expecting to be surrounded by zombies, and these zombies were different from the usual ones he came across.

A companion beside him, confident in his own abilities, looked at the mature mixed-type zombie with disdain. Charging forward, he aimed to punch and explode the zombie’s head.
Dai Quan didn’t make a sound to stop him, just watching quietly. He wanted to know if it truly matched the records in the album.
The mature mixed-type zombie didn’t move, allowing the punch to land on its face with a thud. The sound seemed dull, but in reality, it did no harm to the mixed-type zombie.
The mixed-type zombie grabbed the other’s wrist and carelessly threw him away into the distance.
It looked on emotionlessly at the foolish humans.
From the darkness, a deep voice carried over.

They had thought the speaker was a human.

The Corpse God said slowly, "I am looking for my proxy. Becoming my proxy grants you the power to command zombies, to roam freely anywhere."
Dai Quan asked nervously, "Proxy, you won’t kill us, you’re seeking to make us into your proxies?"
He had listened carefully.
"You are correct," the Corpse God replied. "But among you four Awakeners, only one can become my proxy, and the last one standing will..."
The Corpse God didn’t finish.
As if preempting the conclusion, Dai Quan, dagger in hand, pounced like a wild beast on his companions, stabbing with precision, piercing right through the necks of two.
Just as he aimed for the neck of the last companion, that one quickly reacted, rolling away to create distance from Dai Quan.
"Dai Quan, have you fucking lost your mind?"
He stared at the two companions on the ground, bleeding out from their necks, stunned. Who could have imagined Dai Quan would be so deranged, attacking without a thought?
Dai Quan’s expression was slightly crazed. "Zhao Xingyu, just stay still and let me kill you. You heard, only one person can become the proxy. I, Dai Quan, am that one. Don’t even think about resisting. I’m a Strength Awakened, and you are a Speed Awakened. In this confined space, you can’t escape."
He didn’t want to die; he wanted to live.
His so-called companions meant nothing to him.
Anyone standing in his way of survival was to be eliminated.
The Corpse God, hidden in the darkness, watched the farce unfolding before it.
Thinking... This human’s mind seems somewhat smart, much smarter than those fools before.
Dai Quan stepped closer to Zhao Xingyu, his face revealing increasing madness that chilled Zhao Xingyu to the bone.

Zhao Xingyu hoped Dai Quan would be sensible.
But Dai Quan, without thinking, charged at Zhao Xingyu with a roar, swinging his dagger wildly. Zhao Xingyu, unarmed, could only lift his arms to defend himself. In an instant, blood sprayed, and wounds covered his body.
Dai Quan stabbed directly into Zhao Xingyu’s heart, gritting his teeth and twisting viciously. His gaze grew more ferocious by the second.
"It’s either you or me. I want to live. There’s nothing wrong with that. Now off you go."
Zhao Xingyu, grabbing at Dai Quan’s arms, finally released his grip weakly. His hands fell to the ground with a slap, as he lay motionless.
"I’ve killed them; now I’m your proxy."
Dai Quan gasped lightly, covered in blood, like a demon emerging from the abyss, his mad eyes enough to strike fear in anyone who saw them.
The Corpse God commanded its tentacles to sweep up the three bodies off the ground, dragging them into the darkness to feast. If one listened closely, they could hear the sounds of chewing.

Dai Quan, enduring the fear in his heart, hoped the other would keep its promise.
"A human worth cultivating, I will give you even greater power," the Corpse God murmured.
