Steal a kiss (2)
“Hmph… you… you’re always like this. I will never trust you again,” Mu Mingtang pouted, showing an angry expression on her face. She couldn’t believe she was tricked by Xie Xuanchen.
“Madam, don’t be angry. I’m just teasing you. By the way, what did you mean by always like this? Although I lied to you at first, but later on, when have I ever lied to you?”
“Really?” In disbelief, Mu Mingtang asked Xie Xuanchen, “Why do I remember you lied so many times?”
Listening to Mu Mingtang, Xie Xuanchen also panicked a little, ‘Did I really lie that much?’
Xie Xuanchen was not sure, so he quickly changed the topic of conversation. “No, you remember it wrongly. Don’t you want to drink? It’s such a beautiful night, and there is a beautiful woman accompanying me and we also have wine. So Madam, let’s have a drink, okay?”
Although Mu Mingtang was still angry, she could not resist the words ‘beautiful woman’, so she responded by nodding her head reluctantly.
Xie Xuanchen immediately looked back at the maids behind him and grimaced in frustration, “Why are you still here? I don’t want to see you.”
The maids were actually hurt by Xie Xuanchen’s words, but they didn’t dare to disobey his words. So after putting the drinking utensils down, the maids retired, giving the prince and the princess some alone time.
Although the maids had left, the courtyard was not dark as they had previously hung lanterns on the hallway. Mu Mingtang scanned the area and stated, “Right, you should have let them place the chairs before they go. Where will we sit now as you’ve sent everyone away?”
Xie Xuanchen laughed in response to this question. He sat down on the wooden steps after removing his robe. His long legs crossed over the steps and casually placed on the ground: “The road is dead, but people are alive. With so many things around, can’t we find a place to sit?”
Mu Mingtang thought about it too. She had been pampered for so long that she had forgotten the feeling of sitting on the ground. She tried to imitate Xie Xuanchen after sitting on the steps, but ran into an issue.
“Why am I unable to put my legs on the ground?” She let out a cry.
“How about you try it again after sitting two steps down?” Xie Xuanchen answered while rolling his eyes.
Mu Mingtang was hurt by those words, so to hide her embarrassment, she frowned at Xie Xuanchen and angrily replied, “I won’t!”
She struggled to extend her legs after she finished speaking in order to reach the ground, as she saw Xie Xuanchen had no trouble doing so.
After giving it some thought, Xie Xuanchen answered candidly, “Your height is less than mine. There is nothing wrong with your posture. How about moving a few steps down?”
Mu Mingtang felt that her husband was laughing at her small height, so said in a stubborn tone, “No need.”
Xie Xuanchen tactfully stopped bringing up this topic again. He took the wine glass, refilled it, and handed it to Mu Mingtang.
The night wind swayed with a hint of floral fragrance mixed in it, and the begonias fluttered down with the breeze, like a slow rain.
Alongside Xie Xuanchen and Mu Mingtang, many petals fell. Although Mu Mingtang could see that nothing about this place resembled her former home, she still felt she had returned back to her home as she watched the begonia petals fly ahead of her.
Perhaps for Mu Mingtnag, her home was where she found peace.
