As the small conflict was resolved, the three couples gathered in a friendly manner. Xie Xuanchen and Ye Luyan both moved closer to Mu Mingtang and Xiao Siyi respectively, and only Jiang Mingwei was left alone. Although she hadn’t reconciled with Xie Xuanji, at this moment, she could only bite the bullet and move towards her husband.
All eyes were on Jiang Mingwei when she made this move. Xiao Siyi was still upset from the past events, even though she was aware that Jiang Mingwei was now a princess of the Ye Dynasty. She was even more disgusted when she observed Jiang Mingwei carry a lofty aristocratic appearance, so she couldn’t stop but sneered coldly at Jiang Mingwei.
Xiao Siyi’s dislike was obvious for everyone to see, making others uncomfortable, especially Jiang Mingwei, who suddenly broke out into a cold sweat. She feared that Xiao Siyi, a cruel and stupid woman, would disrespect her and reveal her and Ye Luyan’s affairs in front of Xie Xuanji, making things even more difficult for her than they already are.
Mu Mingtang suddenly became excited and her eyes brightened up after seeing the interaction between them. Jiang Mingwei appeared to be calm, Ye Luyan pretended not to know, and Xiao Siyi appeared upset. What about Xie Xuanji? Did he really know nothing?
Mu Mingtang smiled without saying a word. She quietly tugged on Xie Xuanchen’s sleeve, motioning him to look across. Unfortunately, Xie Xuanchen lacked experience regarding gossip to get her hint.
Mu Mingtang thought he was the only person here who actually didn’t know anything. However, Xie Xuanchen sensed that there was an odd connection between these four individuals, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it. Wasting no time, he directly inquired about it, “You four, do you know each other?”
Mu Mingtang refrained from laughing out loud, and Ye Luyan and Xie Xuanji both felt embarrassed as soon as Xie Xuanchen’s words were spoken.
Jiang Mingwei was initially shocked, but she immediately forced a calm smile and tried to cut off the conversation, afraid that Xiao Siyi would reveal something that should not be revealed: “How can that be? The envoys are here to discuss peace negotiations.”
Although Jiang Mingwei’s reply was a little abrupt, it surely was a reminder to everyone present that the peace negotiation between the two countries was very important and nothing should be allowed to harm their diplomatic ties, especially their private matters.
After hearing Jiang Mingwei’s words, even Xiao Siyi controlled her anger after realising the hidden meaning behind her words, so did Ye Luyan and Xie Xuanji. After observing this, Xie Xuanchen was certain that there was some connection between them he was unaware of.
“I see. I thought you knew each other before,” Xie Xuanchen remarked with a nod.
The peaceful situation would surely collapse if Xie Xuanchen spoke any longer, so Jiang Mingwei hurriedly stated, “The banquet is going to start, and it’s almost time. Let’s go. My lord. Please don’t keep the Emperor, Empress and officials waiting too long.”
Xie Xuanji’s face was expressionless, but he gave Jiang Mingwei a slight nod. Before he left, he didn’t even bother to inform Ye Luyan and others.
Jiang Mingwei left as soon as Xie Xuanji did. Ye Luyan bid farewell to Xie Xuanchen vigilantly and left with Xiao Siyi. When those four people left, Mu Mingtang lost patience and lightly nudged Xie Xuanchen as she asked with a smirk, “Why did you ask that?”
“I don’t know what’s going on between them. And their behaviour is obviously suspicious, so how can you blame me for asking?” After Xie Xuanchen finished speaking, he asked her sincerely, “Mingtang, what’s going on?”
