Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth Chapter 228

"If your assurance had been effective, this would not have made the news—go check online yourself."

"You better settle this as soon as possible, I'm saying this for your own good…"

"I know, am resolving it, will calm things down soon."

"I'll wait for your news."

After hanging up the phone, Cabin Posia's father returned to the meeting room.

By then, Cabin Posia and his lawyer had also stood up, intending to leave.

Cabin Posia's father asked, "Where are you going?"

Cabin Posia replied, "Dad, I think they lack sincerity in negotiations, the compensation amount is totally unreasonable, I'd rather go to court than be extorted by this bastard."

"You're the bastard," the Vice Chancellor Posia pointed at his own son, "Sit back down and don't say another word."

Vice Chancellor Posia looked at Luke beside him, "Sorry, it's my fault as a father for not raising him well, I apologize on behalf of Cabin to you.

Also, we are willing to pay the compensation amount, and if there's no problem, I would like to sign the settlement now."

Luke was somewhat surprised and glanced at Daisy beside him.

Daisy looked at Vice Chancellor Posia and then at his son and said, "If Cabin Posia has no objections, we can anytime."

Vice Chancellor Posia said, "Cabin, go and sign."

"No, they are extorting us, I'd rather feed dogs with the money than give it to them."

Vice Chancellor Posia said quietly, "Avery, thank you for your efforts, but clearly…some people do not deserve your services.

I think we should leave."

"You're right." Avery was not sure why Vice Chancellor Posia had this drastic change, but he clearly knew who was paying the lawyer fees, and that was enough.

"Dad, you can't just abandon me."

"Sign the settlement, and I'll cover it.

Of course, you're already of age, with the right to choose and freedom, but I'm not paying for your freedom—do you understand?"

Cabin Posia was completely disoriented and shouted in frustration, "Oh my god, how can you treat me , have you forgotten what you promised mom?"

"I promised your mother too many times, is that why you turned out ? To steal a police car for a female murderer, I've never seen someone so foolish; I can't even believe you're my son.

If you don't listen to me this time, I won't deal with your issues anymore.

Having said that, Vice Chancellor Posia left without looking back.

Avery did not leave; instead, he made one last effort, "Cabin, listen to your father, he must have his reasons.

This case will do no good for either side if it continues."

Normally, Avery wouldn't say such a thing.

He wasn't wrong; if each side continued with the lawsuit, it would be a prolonged battle. Even if the compensation amount was reduced, the attorney fees would still be substantial, with only the lawyers standing to gain in the end.

However, the problem was that Cabin had no money, his dad did, and if his dad didn't pay, Avery couldn't be expected to appear in court for free.

Since his way of earning was blocked, it was better to end it.

After several moments of silence, Cabin finally signed the settlement.

Despite the multitude of grievances in his heart, he had to compromise in the face of reality.

The settlement was then submitted before a judge, who asked in person if the signatures were theirs. Upon receiving confirmations from Luke and Cabin, the settlement officially took effect.

According to the agreement, Cabin would pay forty thousand US dollars in compensation within a week.

The theft of the Harley had officially concluded.

Luke was also very satisfied; after paying for Daisy's attorney fees, he would have about thirty-five thousand US dollars left—a much quicker way to earn money than working a regular job.

Eight o'clock in the evening, Carley American Restaurant.

This was a Michelin-starred restaurant, yes, the one where Hope brought Julian.

Luke gallantly pulled out the chair for Daisy.

Daisy surveyed the restaurant's decor, "Isn't the food here pricey?"

"As long as you like it, no matter how much it costs, I'm willing to spend."

"I remember this restaurant requires reservations and it seems to have been renovated recently."

Luke hesitated slightly, "Have you been here before?"

"Our law firm had a dinner here together."

Hope's tactics seem to be unnecessary.

"Then you order." Luke gave up.

Daisy ordered a set meal for two and a bottle of red wine.

The two clinked glasses.

Luke said, "Don't you find Vice Chancellor Posia's actions today a bit strange? His attitudes at the beginning and the end were completely opposite, as if something had provoked him."

Daisy nodded, "He was indeed provoked; he had to calm the lawsuit quickly for the sake of his own prospects. If the lawsuit became a drawn-out battle, it would definitely affect his reputation."

Luke guessed that Daisy must have done something, "How did you do it?"

Daisy said, "I have a journalist friend who's always worried about lacking news material, so I helped her out a little."

"Good tactic." Luke thought for a moment and understood Daisy's approach.

Although he didn't know much about law, lawyer negotiations and police interrogations had some similarities.

Even though Cabin Posia was the party involved in the case, the real decision-maker was his father, Vice Chancellor Posia—whether to settle or go to court was crucially dependent on Vice Chancellor Posia. Therefore, Daisy didn't focus her efforts on Cabin Posia, but rather targeted Vice Chancellor Posia effectively.
