Titus Zane was stunned and stood on the spot, at a loss for reaction.
Watching Olivia Zane continue to struggle up the stairs with her cane, she looked completely different from the nimble girl before.
The days of waiting are always the most torturous. The doctor said the results would take two more days, but just one day passed feeling as long as a year.
Especially when you have something on your mind and nothing much to do.
One evening, Titus received a call from an unknown number. Looking at the strange number on his phone, he didn’t think twice before hanging up.
But immediately after, the number called again. After seeing the flashing number, he thought it over and decided to answer.
A cheerful girl’s voice came through the receiver, "Beautiful sister, do you remember me? I’m Beatrice Hargrave, the one who had milk tea with you!"
"I remember." Through the phone, Titus slightly curved his lips, picturing the girl’s face involuntarily.
"Oh, that’s great, you remember me!" Beatrice sounded very happy before continuing, "I’m free today and with friends at KTV, I wanted to invite you over."
"That, um, wouldn’t be very appropriate." Titus gently declined, feeling it was awkward since Beatrice was with her friends;
"It’s okay, just a few business friends of my dad, they need me to socialize a bit, and I’m worried about handling it alone, so I wanted to ask you to come and give me some courage."
"I see..." Titus turned towards the window and absentmindedly drew on it with her finger, imagining the scenario: a young girl surrounded by several men, being coerced into drinking and singing...
Still hesitating, Beatrice’s voice came again, "Beautiful sister, please, come on, come over and keep me company!"
"Alright." He sighed heavily, Titus agreed, unable to resist the child’s coaxing.
After a simple preparation, Titus grabbed his handbag and left his house.
Half an hour later, the taxi stopped in front of a KTV. Titus got out, glanced at the neon-flashing logo, closed the car door and headed straight to the KTV.
He reported the name of the private room to the attendant, who then led him up a flight of stairs to the room.
The decor was luxurious, clearly indicating that it was not of low expense.
The attendant politely knocked on the door, then pushed it open, "Please come in."
Titus said thanks, and walked into the private room.
"Beautiful sister! You’ve arrived!" As soon as he set foot inside, Beatrice eagerly came over, grabbed Titus’s hand, and was as happy as a child.
Still dressed innocently -- ponytail, knit sweater, jeans, and ordinary sneakers on her feet.
Titus kept a smile on his lips, somewhat puzzled by Beatrice’s enthusiasm.
"Come in, let me introduce you." Beatrice pulled Titus by the hand into the room.
"This is Uncle Nicholas, a business partner of my dad, and these are his friends."
Thinking about leaving was now impossible. Whether intentional or not, the three men in the room all familiar: Nathan Moore, Nicholas Croft, and Evander Lancaster.
Seeing their curious or probing looks, his lips maintained a suitable smile and he nodded slightly to Nicholas, saying politely, "Hello."
Nicholas nodded back in response.
Before he could greet the other two men, Evander Lancaster stood up and greeted him first.
"Sister-in-law, when did you come back? Why didn’t you contact me, brother? Did the second brother hide you away in Golden Mansion?"
