,"So that’s how it is," Titus Zane laughed, his lips curling up charmingly, "I’m in Banyan City. Call me in advance next time you’re coming for a shoot, and I’ll pick you up at the airport."
"Sure thing, Sister Zane, it’s a promise!" Beatrice Hargrave’s cheerful voice entered Titus’s ears, and she agreed, "It’s a promise."
"Oh, Sister Zane, you go ahead with your work. I need to hang up now; I still have to practice my vocal exercises." Beatrice’s tone suddenly turned melancholic. Titus laughed and said, "Okay, Bye~"
"Mhm, bye-bye, Sister Zane, I love you, mwa~"
After blowing kisses into the phone receiver twice, Beatrice finally hung up and casually threw her phone onto the couch, then with a reluctant air, she looked at the two men and said, "Sister Zane said she’s in Banyan City."
"Which company does she work for?"
Nathan Moore’s expression tensed noticeably as he looked straight at Beatrice’s face, waiting for her to speak.
But she dropped her gaze, her hands crossed, and her two index fingers playfully toyed with each other. "I didn’t ask,"
She seemed worried she might be blamed, so she pouted and added, "You only told me to ask which city Sister Zane was in." They didn’t tell her to ask where she worked—she certainly wasn’t going to meddle.
Not sure if this little enchantress was too naive or really foolish, she only asked the city, not where she lived.
Watching Nathan Moore sit back on the couch and light a cigarette, Nicholas Croft licked his lips and spoke, continuing to coax her, "Beatrice, sweetie, call Sister Zane again, tell her that Uncle Moore mentioned she’s found a job down there. Ask her which company it is."
"I don’t want to!" Beatrice looked up and flatly refused.
"If Sister Zane wants to tell Uncle Moore, she will. I don’t want to be the bad guy!"
Wasn’t she already being the bad guy? Suppressing the helplessness in his heart, he spoke again, trying to persuade her, "Beatrice, listen to Uncle, just make one more call to Sister Zane..."
"Big Brother!" Before Nicholas Croft could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Nathan Moore, who looked up at him, "No need, I have some business to attend to in Banyan City in the next few days. I’ll go myself. I’m sure she can be found."
Now that he knew she was in Banyan City, once he got there, he could pull a few strings to find her.
Besides, she said that she would come back to T-city.
Banyan City, after lunch in the staff cafeteria, Titus returned to her office to rest.
Leaning back in her office chair, she held a cup of coffee, tasting it while gazing out the window.
It seemed like a habit she had developed three years ago.
When she was alone, she always liked to sit in front of the window, staring outside and daydreaming.
Imagining herself as a bird in the sky, free and unbound, flying at will.
Latterly, she had finally become free, but some things had suddenly changed.
For example, when she was alone, she would feel lonely, feel like she had nothing to do, and even her once beloved paintbrushes, she was reluctant to pick up again.
When she was with Logan Ray, sometimes she could spend the whole day nestled at home in front of the canvas without getting bored. Now, it seemed like everything lost its appeal to her, except for working hard to earn money.
Thinking of Logan Ray reminded her of what Ariana Evans, her mother, had said. His wife was about to give birth, and it had been over half a month since then; she wondered if their baby had been born.
Turning her gaze away from the window, she put down her coffee cup and picked up the mobile phone on her desk, dialed a series of numbers and called out.
"Mom, it’s me, I’m Titus."
"Titus, why haven’t you come home in some time?" Ariana’s gentle voice came through the receiver—had it not been for that DNA test, Titus would never doubt her love for her.
