Mia Foster walked arm in arm with Steven British, the two of them chatted and laughed as they walked into the parking lot, passing by Felix Shaw’s car. Felix quickly crouched down, not wanting her to see him.
Whether intentionally or truly by accident, Mia let out a cry of alarm and stumbled forwards, but Steven swiftly caught her in a full embrace.
In the D state of the US, unlike back home, it was still summer. Steven wore nothing but a thin, short-sleeved T-shirt, and Mia was in light-colored dungaree dress. When their chests pressed together from Felix’s angle, his peach blossom eyes tightened, ready to push open the car door and step out.
Seeing that Mia had already stepped back from Steven’s chest, maintaining a safe distance, he stayed seated without moving.
The peach blossom eyes slightly squinted, the gloomy light fixated on the man and woman in front of the car.
The knuckles gripping the handle were so strained they turned pale, and even the veins on the backs of his hands stood out.
The damned woman, he was indeed curious to see what tricks she would pull next!
"Thank you." Mia smiled in thanks as she put a small distance between herself and Steven.
He responded with both hands outstretched, "You’re welcome."
He then cracked another joke, "It’s an honor to have such close contact with a woman as excellent and beautiful as you."
Mia shook her head helplessly and turned to continue towards her car.
Seeing Mia get into the driver’s seat and Steven naturally take the passenger side, Felix couldn’t help but sneer.
"Uncultured man!" When accompanying a beautiful woman, there’s no reason to let her drive.
Seeing the champagne-colored sedan turn its head and drive towards him, Felix crouched down again, gripping the steering wheel, only his eyes visible above the windshield.
Perhaps Mia didn’t notice him; she drove towards the exit of the parking lot.
Felix quickly turned the wheel and followed at a discreet distance, close enough to see but not to be discovered.
Felix was grateful that the permanent population in D state wasn’t large, so there were no traffic jams like in bustling cities. The drive to the restaurant was smooth and unobstructed.
Seeing Mia walk into the restaurant with her arm in Steven’s, Felix sat in his car and waited for a while before it seemed like the right time to get out and head to the restaurant himself.
Westerners seem to have a fondness for steak and red wine, much like people back home enjoy hotpot.
The large restaurant was nearly full.
Westerners like to create a romantic atmosphere, so the restaurant lights were dimmed to a reddish hue, giving a hazy ambiance. Felix was so preoccupied with looking for Mia that he narrowly avoided colliding with the dining tables in front of him several times.
This drew the unusual gazes of the silent diners.
In the farthest corner of the restaurant, the dim light overhead was turned off. On the rectangular table, a candelabra was set, its five candles flickering with ambiguous flames.
In the center of the table, the red in the vase was even more striking, a single bloom, symbolizing a wholehearted devotion.
As for words, well, a ladies’ man like Felix had more than a little understanding of their significance.
Seeing the two placing their knives and forks down and picking up their wine glasses for a gentle clink, eyes locked slowly sipping, Felix’s heart nearly burst from his chest.
Suppressing the flames of anger in his chest, Felix stepped forward with a gentlemanly air and smiled, "My dear, inviting a friend to celebrate our marriage anniversary without telling me, is this a surprise for your husband?"
Having said that, he lifted the dumbfounded Mia up, moved her to an empty chair inside, then sat down in the spot where Mia was just seated.
