"Honey, I feel awful," Vanessa Armstrong turned and threw herself into Oliver Shaw’s arms, pouting with distress.
"What did you eat tonight, for it to be this bad? Is Seraphina feeling unwell too?"
Oliver Shaw gently stroked Vanessa Armstrong’s back while asking with concern. Seraphina had somehow run over, holding onto the bathroom door, chirping, "I’m fine."
"Oh, as long as you’re fine," Oliver Shaw propped up the slumped Vanessa in his arms. "Come on, let’s take you to the hospital for a check-up."
"Honey, I’m uncomfortable..." Vanessa clung lifelessly to Oliver Shaw’s shoulder. Oliver had no choice but to carry her, instructed the housemaid a few things, and told his daughter to watch TV at home before taking Vanessa to the hospital for a check-up.
At the hospital, Vanessa Armstrong’s series of examination reports all came back normal, showing no signs of food poisoning. Yet she still lay in Oliver Shaw’s arms, moaning about feeling unwell, occasionally dry heaving.
Seeing her half genuinely ill and half pretending, Evander Lancaster stifled a yawn while suggesting, "Mr. Shaw, why not take her for a urine test?"
They had some white wine in the evening, pretending to be quite drunk as they left, creating a chance for Felix Shaw and Mia Foster to be alone.
"A urine test? Why do that?" Oliver Shaw asked, gently patting Vanessa Armstrong’s back with confusion. Evander Lancaster chuckled slightly, with a sarcastic smile, "To check if she’s pregnant. Women often have this reaction when they’re pregnant."
Having a child at an old age could be a joyful occasion, but for Oliver Shaw, it would seem a bit ironic.
The eldest son was already twenty-seven, only married late. If he’d married earlier, he’d probably have a baby now; yet now, the father’s young wife might be pregnant, which could cause gossip.
Upon hearing Evander Lancaster’s suggestion, Oliver Shaw took Vanessa for a pregnancy test. When they came out of the office door, Oliver asked, "Vanessa, have you had your period this month?"
"Honey, how would I remember," Vanessa Armstrong replied, clinging to Oliver Shaw’s neck, hanging entirely off him.
After collecting the urine and sending it for testing, Oliver Shaw returned to Evander Lancaster’s office to wait for the results. Watching Vanessa Armstrong’s clingy demeanor, Evander’s eyes were full of sarcasm. This woman seemed flighty, making one wonder about the judgment of the Shaw family men.
To alleviate sleepiness, Evander took a cigarette pack from the pocket of his white coat, pulled one out, and handed it to Oliver Shaw. "Mr. Shaw, would you like one?"
Oliver Shaw was about to take it but looked at Vanessa clinging to his shoulder and withdrew his hand. "No, if Vanessa is pregnant, it’s not good for the baby."
Upon hearing this, Evander Lancaster had no choice but to refrain from smoking in the office. "Mr. Shaw, why don’t you sit for a bit, I’ll go outside for a smoke."
Having said that, he walked out of the office.
Entering the gynecology lab, Evander leisurely walked in, holding a cigarette to his lips, lighting it with a lighter. The female doctor doing the tests glanced at him, clearly annoyed.
"Director, it would be nice if you could set an example."
"Stop nagging, hurry up and do it. Is she pregnant or not?" Evander snapped impatiently, taking a drag of his cigarette.
The female doctor glared at him, retorting, "What’s the rush? It’s not like it’s yours!"
"Watch your mouth! Young lady, I’m telling you, if you dare to disrespect the director again, I’ll fire you!" Evander warned as he exhaled smoke, tapping the doctor on the head.
"If you want respect, start by respecting yourself!" the doctor retorted, full of disdain. Evander was usually nice, friendly with everyone at the hospital, and without any airs.
