"Are you in such a hurry to push me off the stage?" Oliver Shaw spoke first, his hands resting on the armrests of the executive chair, his eyes slightly narrowed as he looked at his son.
"Dad, the way you say it sounds so unpleasant," Felix Shaw leisurely fiddled with his stock certificate documents, picking them up and putting them back on the desk repeatedly, his seemingly amused expression was quite irritating.
"I’m not trying to push you off the stage. You said you’re at the age to hold grandchildren. It’s your son’s failure, unable to let you enjoy the presence of children and grandchildren around you. However, my stepmom has kind of filled that void. Just as she walked through the door, she got pregnant. Wouldn’t it be nice for you to retire early and enjoy family bliss at home with her?"
Felix Shaw kept calling her stepmom, and the irony laden in it was something only he understood. His father pampered that woman so much. If one day he found out...
Ha, wonder if he would faint on the spot.
It’s not that he was heartless. Watching his mother become increasingly thin and hospitalized softened his heart.
A perfectly happy family destroyed by the selfishness of the man across from him. Though he wasn’t some great guy, he had been reflecting lately, even secretly swearing that if he ever had a baby, he would never let such a thing happen to his own family.
"Felix, you’ve been planning this since the proposal for a capital increase, haven’t you?" Oliver Shaw asked mildly. He had his suspicions when his son proposed it but hadn’t anticipated his actions to be so swift.
"Dad, are you really old, or is your heart occupied only by personal affairs?" Felix Shaw exaggeratedly frowned, looking at his father with a mixed expression of laughter and exasperation, then leaned closer. Though smiling, his words cut like knives, "Since you want to know so much, I’ll tell you. Ever since you kicked mom out and refused to give her retirement money, I’ve been thinking of taking over the company!"
Facing Oliver Shaw’s stern expression, Felix Shaw continued, "If it were possible, I’d truly want to leave you penniless, to make your old age even more pitiable than those solitary elders!"
Watching his father’s face gradually change color, Felix Shaw suddenly straightened himself, laughed generously while saying, "If you’re reluctant to give up the CEO position, there’s no rush," after the laughter leaned in with his handsome face, deliberately lowering his voice to say, "If I were you, I’d retire early and keep my woman at home, lest one day you’ll become a laughing stock."
After saying this, giving Oliver Shaw no chance to react, he stood up, laughing brazenly as he swaggered out of the office.
After closing the door, the smile on Felix Shaw’s face disappeared, replaced by a shadow of brooding severity; a fox will eventually reveal its tail, and when he grabs that tail, he definitely won’t let go!
After being discharged, Melody Zachary hadn’t gone out for several days, locking herself in her apartment, and even the food was delivered by Felix Shaw’s secretary after being instructed to purchase it.
Not wanting his mother to become depressed, Felix Shaw thought about helping his mother find something to do, discussing his ideas with a few brothers. Evander Lancaster suggested volunteering at his facility, keeping busy would prevent idle thoughts.
Felix Shaw certainly wouldn’t agree, after his mother had been served by others for half her life; how could he bear to let her serve others at such an age now?
Finally, Nicholas Croft offered a suggestion: to give her a role in one of the productions he’s invested in. The pay wouldn’t be high, but they would inform the director and screenwriter to add more scenes. Consider it a way for her to spend some time on the set, avoiding loneliness at home.
