Chapter 432: She Wants to Respond Openly
“Hello.” When she called, Rong Yan had just washed some grapes and popped one into her mouth, making her speech muffled and unclear.
“The heat online just won’t die down, and a lot of people are flocking to your account to find you. Do you think we should issue a statement or handle it some other way?”
Popularity is a double-edged sword.
If used well, it can add luster and boost one’s status dramatically.
But if mishandled, it can backfire and cause unnecessary trouble.
Now, Rong Yan’s popularity was sky-high, but unfortunately, this was the kind of attention that couldn’t be promoted: her boyfriend and the stage getting pelted with eggs.
That’s why she asked if Rong Yan wanted to issue an official statement.
“Crunch.” Rong Yan gave most of the grapes to the man in the sickbed, keeping only a small portion for herself. Upon hearing the question, she reassured, “Wait a moment, Estelle, don’t rush. Let me take a look before I decide.”
With that, she walked to the living room of the suite, where, apart from the fridge and TV, there was a thoughtfully placed spare laptop on the desk nearby.
Rong Yan walked over, turned on the laptop, and logged into her account.
She was startled by the barrage of notifications that popped up.
She randomly opened a few messages that mentioned her and a few private messages sent to her, then pursed her lips and said, “I’ve looked through them.”
“So, what will it be, issue a statement or…?”
Rong Yan raised an eyebrow, showing strong self-confidence, “No. We won’t issue a statement.”
Estelle didn’t understand, “Not issuing a statement means we just leave it unaddressed?”
What she was worried about all along was that if they kept silent, certain people online would start accusing them of being guilty for not speaking up.
If things continued, the heat would quickly turn into an onslaught of negativity.
Rong Yan certainly knew all this; her calmness stemmed from having already thought of a solution, “How about I record an a cappella version of the new song?”
“At this time?” Estelle was somewhat surprised, having not anticipated this suggestion from Rong Yan.
Rong Yan’s mind was clear; she was acutely aware of her situation and spoke calmly, “Yes, right now! There are basically two negative voices online about me: one regarding being interrupted by eggs thrown at me during my performance, and the other alleging that I’m a homewrecker.”
“There’s not much to explain about the homewrecker accusation, since it’s been a narrative since my debut. Even if I tried to explain and laid out all the evidence in front of these people, they wouldn’t believe it. I don’t feel like explaining!”
But her profession was a singer, and she was very clear about what her primary job entailed.
“I feel that the more we deliberately try to avoid some things, the more those who enjoy spectacles will keep bringing them up. Instead of that, it’s better to face the issue head-on.”
“I understand now,” Estelle got her meaning.
Rong Yan was suggesting that instead of having the team tirelessly suppress the heat from her stage incident, it would be more straightforward to simply perform the song again.
“That solution could work, but are you with Mr. Li right now? Can you get away at the moment?”
To record something for the web, you’d have to go to a recording studio anyway.
Rong Yan glanced inside, then pressed her lips together and said earnestly, “I’m at the hospital and can’t leave for now. There’s a laptop here; I’ll just start a live stream and record an a cappella version.”
“Are you sure?” An a cappella performance is quite different from one with background music; it’s a true test of a singer’s abilities.
One careless move and all the flaws could be magnified indefinitely.
Rong Yan still wanted to start a live stream and record an a cappella version. This meant even if the performance wasn’t perfect, there would be no chance to do it over.
She did not approve of this risky method of response.
