Shi Mufeng was a man and naturally possessed the vanity all men have. When his female companion received compliments on her looks, it reflected well on him too. This was one of the reasons he liked bringing Rong Weiwei to various occasions.

He had barely started speaking when the mayor of Lin City interrupted him with a smile, “Oh, Mufeng. I have other matters to attend to, can we talk about this some other time?”
Was he being rejected?

We can also talk over a meal on another day.”
“Sure.” The middle-aged man agreed briskly.
But they were all adults who understood that his so-called agreement was just a polite response to Mufeng’s invitation for a meal. When it came time to actually have the meal, it would depend on whether he had the time!
“Then I’ll get busy now.”
“Mr. Ye, please go ahead.”
Of course, Rong Weiwei was no fool and could sense that the other party didn’t want to give her the opportunity for the tribute film. Although her face still bore a smile, her eyes were filled with frustration as she weakly echoed Shi Mufeng’s words, “Mr. Ye, take care.”

Rong Weiwei moved her lips, wanting to say that she didn’t just want a role in the film, she wanted the lead role!
If she couldn’t land the lead role, what was the point of participating?
Even though she was seething with anxiety inside, as if she was being scorched by fire, she managed to squeeze out a smile in the face of Shi Mufeng’s feeble comfort.
However, her smile froze on her face when she saw the mayor of Lin City, who had just brushed her off, walking straight towards Rong Yan and Li Shengxiao.

She had seen it, and so had Shi Mufeng beside her. His reaction was the same as hers: disbelief followed by extreme embarrassment.
He couldn’t help but tighten the grip on Rong Weiwei’s shoulder before forcing out, “Forget it, Weiwei, I’ve been thinking, and you don’t really suit the tribute film. They’re usually shot in remote and desolate locations, with harsh conditions, and they take months to film. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with you being there.”
Rong Weiwei could hardly believe her ears as she looked up at him, “Mufeng, what do you mean?”
Shi Mufeng, looking at the mayor of Lin City who had just been chatting with him intimately, then turning to Rong Weiwei with apologetic eyes, said, “I’m sorry, Weiwei, I’ll find you another resource that suits you better.”
