Chapter 783: Chapter 783: Faintly Heard the Sound of a Propeller
On the outskirts of Capital City’s private airstrip, the propellers of a small helicopter had already started up, buzzing as they spun, while the ground was full of busy workers running to and fro, performing the final inspection on the helicopter.
“Helicopter blades secure!”
“Onboard instruments.”
“Onboard instruments secure!”
An individual holding a checklist would ask a question, and the staff inspecting the helicopter would loudly report back. After each check, he would mark a check on the checklist in his hand, signifying that the inspection was passed.
While the inspection was proceeding in an orderly fashion, a black Lincoln raced from the city center and pulled up not far away.
A staff member in charge of the scene immediately jogged over, opened the car door, and said respectfully, “Mr. Li, everything is ready. You… ”
“Shh,” the dignified man made a silent gesture to keep quiet.
The worker then noticed the situation in the car, shut his mouth, and cautiously stole a glance inside.
Who was the woman Mr. Li brought? Could it be the woman rumored to be by Mr. Li’s side?
He only dared to sneak a few peeks, but Rong Yan’s features were mostly obstructed by Li Shengxiao, preventing him from getting a clear look.
“Yanyan, we’re here.” The regal man’s demeanor was now tender as he leaned down to brush away the fringe on the sleeping young woman’s forehead, tucking it behind her ear. His husky voice was entirely different from his usual decisive and resolute tone.
The staff member standing in front of the car thought he was hallucinating.
Mr. Li speaking with such a soft tone, impossible, right?
Li Shengxiao paid no attention to his presence, gently nudging the still-sleeping person on the shoulder, his gaze focused as if his world comprised only Rong Yan, “Yanyan, wake up.”
“Mmm…” Rong Yan’s sleep was not deep, as back abroad, she had to hold several jobs while attending school and taking care of Little Baby, ending up so exhausted that she’d fight to keep her eyes open. Yet, she would immediately wake up at any sound, it had become a reflex.
So when Li Shengxiao called her a second time, she was already frowning and opening her eyes.
Rong Yan had just woken up and her throat was a bit dry, making her voice hoarse and scratchy, carrying the confusion of a person who had just awoken.
Li Shengxiao watched her parting red lips, wishing he could seal them with his own. Yet, he restrained himself, “Yes, we’re here.”
She propped herself up to look outside and caught the gaze of the worker who had been sneaking a peek, their eyes meeting, “Oh.”
The person was startled as well and quickly bowed his head.
With that little episode, Rong Yan became much more alert. Turning back to the man beside her, she asked, “Have we been here long? Why didn’t you wake me sooner?”
Li Shengxiao carefully unbuckled her seatbelt, appearing to be in a good mood, “No, we just arrived.”
Just arrived? But there are people standing outside already.
In the blink of an eye, the seatbelt Rong Yan had been wearing was undone. Only then did she realize that a man’s coat was draped over her. The large garment left on her still retained warmth—warmth she wasn’t sure came from him or herself. She picked up the coat and handed it back to the refined man, “Li Shengxiao, your coat.”
“Keep it on, it might get cold later,” he replied.
Rong Yan was now completely awake and instinctively looked outside upon hearing his words. She could faintly hear the sound of plane propellers. Could it be that there was an airplane outside?
