Ye Qilan looked at her intently, his gaze fixed on Su Hongxing’s face.
The moment this feminine face suddenly appeared before him, his mind went blank, as if he was experiencing a sense of detachment from the world.
Her face was still fair and smooth, her eyes seemed foggy, as if nothing had changed, yet everything seemed different.
Her gaze was fixed on a point ahead, she hadn’t looked directly at him.
“Oh right, this is my sister-in-law, Liu Qingyin.”
After a moment of silence, Beichuan pulled Su Hongxing behind himself and pushed Liu Qingyin towards Ye Qilan: “Doesn’t she look a lot like our Su Su? And when Qingyin smiles, she looks even more like Su Su.”
As Beichuan spoke, he said to Liu Qingyin: “Qingyin, this is Ye Qilan, the renowned fourth young master of the Ye family.”
Upon hearing, Liu Qingyin chuckled: “Even if my brother-in-law did not tell me, I still know. He was my sister’s former husband. But, an ex is an ex, a thing of the past.”
Ye Qilan’s gaze lingered on Liu Qingyin’s face, her smile sent him into a moment of trance.
Liu Qingyin did bear a strong resemblance to Su Hongxing when she smiled, even more so than Cao Shiyu.
“I thought you were abroad, how did you know about all this?” asked Beichuan, looking at Liu Qingyin more intently.
This sudden appearance of Su Hongxing’s sister seemed more and more bizarre the longer he stared.
With a grin on her face, Liu Qingyin linked arms with Su Hongxing: “Brother-in-law has a poor memory. Didn’t I tell you? I’ve been keeping tabs on my sister. I’ve wanted to come back to visit her for a long time, but I never had the opportunity.”
Upon hearing Liu Qingyin’s words, Su Hongxing looked at her.
Liu Qingyin flashed a big smile, as if she was deliberately trying to ingratiate herself.
Su Hongxing frowned and seeing this, Liu Qingyin toned down her smile: “Sister, you look prettier when you smile.”
Maybe it was Liu Qingyin’s abrupt change of expression or the weight in her words, the atmosphere around them suddenly became heavy.
Ye Qilan didn’t utter a single word, cast Su Hongxing a sidelong glance, and walked away.
Beichuan watched Ye Qilan’s cold departing figure and could feel that he seemed to have changed, as if he had the words, “Strangers please keep out,” etched onto his face.
Even the air seemed to thin out where Ye Qilan had stood.
Beichuan then led Su Hongxing and Liu Qingyin to a more secluded private room.
Upon entering the room, Liu Qingyin and Beichuan immediately started chatting excitedly, while Su Hongxing quietly listened to their jokes and laughter.
Liu Qingyin was very talkative, animated when she spoke.
Sitting quietly, Su Hongxing felt that Liu Qingyin was a lot like Jiang Chengyun.
During the years following Jiang Chengyun’s departure, she had secretly hoped that Jiang Chengyun would come to take her away. Every night before she went to sleep, she would place a family photo under her pillow, taking it out whenever she thought about Jiang Chengyun.
As the years passed, her heart grew cold, and she eventually put the photo at the bottom of a box.
If Beichuan hadn’t needed a family photo that time, she would have probably forgotten what Jiang Chengyun looked like.
The appearance of Liu Qingyin was like reopening an old wound that had healed over. The realisation that healed did not mean cured, the wound was still raw and bloody beneath.
She knew Jiang Chengyun was beautiful, she also knew that she inherited most of her looks from Jiang Chengyun.
But it was not until she saw Liu Qingyin that she realised the one who resembled Jiang Chengyun the most was not Su Hongxing, but Liu Qingyin.
Her heart clenched and not wanting to see Liu Qingyin’s face anymore, she decided to step out of the room for some fresh air.
Walking along the corridor, she headed for a small courtyard behind, it was a quiet place.
