The moon was like a pool of water tonight, spilling silver brilliance all over the ground.
Su Hongxing stood for a while, feeling stifled, the smell of smoke made her feel nauseous.
She composed herself, only to realize that someone had got there first.
The person stood in the dark corner, the flickering light from the tip of their cigarette casting furtive shadows. Under the eerie moonlight, a pair of eyes were staring at her intently, gleaming with a ghostly radiance.
Despite the dim light, she discerned the man’s face, her heart pounded with fear. She instinctively stepped back and in her panic, thought to flee.
“Did you sleep with him?”
Ye Qilan’s voice was as cold as ice, piercing her ears.
Su Hongxing pretended not to hear and quickened her steps to return.
She found Ye Qilan’s gaze from earlier particularly terrifying. His eyes were those of a soulless animal, completely devoid of humanity.
As she returned to the private room, both Beichuan and Liu Qingyin, who were engaged in quiet conversation and laughter, turned to look at her.
“Su Su, what’s wrong?” Beichuan noticed Su Hongxing seemed off.
For the first time, Su Hongxing felt a sense of security with Beichuan. She shook her head: “I’m fine”, just momentarily frightened by Ye Qilan.
“Sister, your hands are really cold.” Liu Qingyin also approached and held Su Hongxing’s hand.
Su Hongxing’s palms were still sweaty. Held by Liu Qingyin’s warm hand, for a moment, she felt like she was back to the time when Jiang Chengyun would do the same to comfort her when she felt cold.
It was the pain of loss after having once possessed that tinged this memory bitter-sweet.
Awakened from her reverie, Su Hongxing pulled her hand away and sat in a corner.
“Brother-in-law, we should probably leave now. Sister doesn’t look well.” Liu Qingyin looked at Su Hongxing with concern.
“We just got here. We can sit for a while and then leave.” Beichuan didn’t share the concern.
His ultimate goal was to flaunt in front of Ye Qilan. How boring it would be if Ye Qilan didn’t react?
Liu Qingyin didn’t say anything more. She left the room briefly, and when she returned, she was holding a cup of hot water in her hand.
“Sister, drink some hot water to warm yourself up. This juice is cold, don’t drink it anymore.” Liu Qingyin’s soft voice, especially soothing in the silence of the night.
Su Hongxing took a sip, and whether it was psychological or something else, it seemed to chase away her chill.
From then on, Beichuan was left alone. Liu Qingyin devoted her attention entirely to Su Hongxing.
Su Hongxing herself found it difficult to adjust to the sudden attention, and even Beichuan found it strange.

Beichuan, who couldn’t bear to see Liu Qingyin disappointed, unconsciously stood up for her: “Su Su, let Qingyin sleep with you. She’s still a child, and she just returned to the country. Can’t you be a little accommodating?”
Su Hongxing gave Beichuan a cold look, making him shudder and forcing a laugh: “Ignore what I just said.”
