Chapter 399: This is Retribution_1
That night, Age became worried when he saw Ye Qilan still not sleeping.
It was not good to not sleep. Ye Qilan had already gone over 48 hours without sleep. If this continued, even a robust body would not be able to withstand it.
“Is Sisi still not sleeping?” Elder Ye called Age aside.
“Mr. Sisi can’t sleep.” Age didn’t dare to lie, because it was a matter of life and death.
Previously, when Su Hongxing disappeared once, Ye Qilan was unable to sleep well, but he would at least doze off at times.
This time, he didn’t sleep at all. From the looks of it, it seemed like he just couldn’t fall asleep.
“Have Aning make some nourishing soup and add some sleeping pills in it without letting him know,” Elder Ye instructed quietly.
Perhaps in a couple of days, Ye Qilan would come to terms with it. Right now, he was just not used to the absence of Su Hongxing.
Age quickly served the soup to Ye Qilan, “Sir, please drink the soup while it’s still hot. We will need energy to continue following Cao Zhen tomorrow.”
It was as if Ye Qilan hadn’t heard him. He was knitting that unfinished baby sweater.
Because Ye Qilan thought it was a pity that the sweater wasn’t completed, he had specifically asked someone to teach him. These days, apart from shadowing Cao Zhen, he spent all his other time on knitting.
If it were any other time, Age might have found it amusing. But as he watched now, he felt an inexplicable heartache.
They still didn’t know why Su Hongxing had a miscarriage, but it was a fact that things between her and Ye Qilan were not pleasant before the incident.
On the one hand, Su Hongxing was carrying Ye Qilan’s child, and on the other, Ye Qilan was getting engaged to Mo Qiu. Moreover, Mo Qiu wanted Su Hongxing to hand over her child to her.
Even though nobody dared to discuss this matter openly, everybody knew that it was terribly unfair.
People were whispering behind their backs that a retribution was inevitable.
Now that Su Hongxing was gone and the baby was no more, could this be considered as retribution?
But if Su Hongxing’s baby was gone, would Su Hongxing be happy?
No one knew who had the last laugh. Perhaps, no one won; everyone lost.
Or perhaps, the baby’s absence was a good thing. At least Su Hongxing was relieved.
“Sir, why don’t I knit? You should drink the soup while it is still hot,” Age suggested when he saw Ye Qilan was too dedicated.
Ye Qilan glanced at him, then continued knitting.
A moment later, he suddenly asked, “Do you think that baby was a boy or a girl?”
Both he and Su Hongxing hoped for a boy. He thought, maybe having a girl wouldn’t be bad either—a beautiful girl like Su Hongxing.
Pity that the child didn’t get to grow. They still didn’t know the sex of the child when it was gone.
“Sir, you will have many more children in the future,” Age consoled Ye Qilan.
“It’s not the same,” Ye Qilan laughed silently.
This was his first child with Su Hongxing—an irreplaceable one.
Su Hongxing said he was too greedy. Beichuan said he was too greedy. Everyone said he would regret it one day. He didn’t pay heed to this earlier, but now he knew, even he had a day of regret.
If he had let Su Hongxing go earlier, would their child have grown up fine?
Looking at the soup which was gradually getting cold, Age got anxious.
“Sir, please have some soup. If your health fails, how will we find Miss Su?” Age couldn’t help but urge again.
This time, Ye Qilan drank the soup without hesitation.
Age felt relieved, thinking that Ye Qilan would soon fall asleep. However, after waiting for two hours, Ye Qilan was still focused on knitting, seemingly not tired at all.
