Chapter 55: Chapter 55: I Will Marry, But Not Su Yalan
Su Nian nestled in the warmth of the quilt. Although the stomach pain didn’t subside immediately, lying down felt much more comfortable, and her ice-cold feet gradually warmed up.

While Su Nian was savoring the moment, she heard a commotion outside the door. Without needing to guess, she knew the loud female voice belonged to Shen Hanxiu’s mother.
It sounded like she had already barged in. Su Nian heard the secretary’s apologetic voice, “Sorry, President Shen…”
It seemed Shen Hanxiu made some gesture to interrupt her apology, cutting off the voice abruptly, and then Deng Tonglian’s voice was heard.
“Ah Shu, how many calls have I made to you? Yalan calls you but you don’t answer, I call but you also don’t answer. Has that woman bewitched you?”
“What’s the matter?” Compared to Deng Tonglian’s anger, Shen Hanxiu’s voice was much calmer.
Deng Tonglian was infuriated by his indifferent attitude: “What’s the matter? What do you think the matter is? The engagement news has been announced, yet you haven’t been home, appearing in the news every day with that woman’s child. What are people outside saying? Where does this put Yalan’s face?”

Shen Hanxiu heard enough of these tiresome words and didn’t respond, while Deng Tonglian kept going on unrestrained, “Son, you’re already divorced, and she’s had a child with another man. You’re not getting any younger, why don’t you marry Yalan and settle down sooner so that I can hold my grandchildren?”
Shen Hanxiu reminded her mildly, “Now you’re concerned about my future? Back when you were eager for me to have a child to carry on the family business, didn’t you throw all kinds of women at me?”
“Your mother was just anxious back then. Now that your career is established, it’s time for you to settle down. Yalan is a good girl, she treats me well, she’s gentle and understanding, far better than Su Nian. Trust me, I wouldn’t harm you.”
Shen Hanxiu didn’t take her words to heart and gave the order to leave, “Mom, please leave. I have work to do.”
Deng Tonglian glanced over at the adjacent rest area, then spoke, “I’ve told you the reasoning. You’re well over thirty; you have your own thoughts. Even if you don’t like Yalan, with the news already blown up, to maintain the bigger picture, the engagement next month should proceed as usual. I’m here today to sound the alarm for you.”
“If you think making a scene will make me compromise, you’ll be disappointed. I will marry, but not to Su Yalan.”
Deng Tonglian immediately smiled at him, “Ah Shu, do you have someone else in mind? I just heard a woman’s voice in your office. Bring her out and let me meet her.”
