Seeing him not speaking, Sophie Smith opened the car door and obediently sat down next to him.
"You really put on a good show today." Asher Land’s tone was a bit peculiar, leaving Sophie unsure of what she did to upset him again.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Asher Land tossed his phone onto her lap, which was playing a video.
"If the box office hits the top, we’ll be together."
"Of course, this might just be my wishful thinking, but Sophie Smith will always be the best leading actress in my heart. I hope to have a chance, a chance to be with her."
This was what Wyatt Sterling said on the award ceremony’s red carpet. She didn’t expect the media to be so fast, already having it online.
"It’s just for promotional purposes." Sophie didn’t know if her answer would satisfy Asher Land.
"He knows you’re my woman, and he still dares to compete with me?"
"He was just talking casually, you don’t need to take it to heart." Sophie coaxed Asher like soothing a child.
Her tone had softened a lot, as she kept explaining to him. He didn’t speak anymore, just started the car.
Sophie breathed a sigh of relief from the bottom of her heart.
Asher Land didn’t take her back to her rented place but brought her back to their previous apartment.
Sophie stood at the door, a bit at a loss. Walking through this door meant everything would return to square one.
Asher Land walked in first, without noticing Sophie hesitating behind him.
Sophie knew, perhaps she should learn to change. From this moment, she shouldn’t wait to be toyed with or abandoned by him. It wasn’t fair to herself. Things had come to this point, she should be proactive, at least learn to be proactive for what she wants.
She walked in, changed her shoes, and saw Asher Land sitting on the sofa. He lit a cigarette, the smoke curling around his slender fingers, dispersing in the air, looking somewhat unreal.
Asher Land dialed his secretary’s number while Sophie quietly stood by.
"No matter what means you use, spend whatever it takes to suppress that news. Contact the heads of each website to delete that video."
Asher Land’s attitude was very firm. She naturally knew why. He would not allow any rumors about her and Wyatt Sterling, even if she said it was for movie promotion, it was still unacceptable.
After hanging up the phone, Asher Land got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing outside thoughtfully.
Wyatt Sterling’s actions today indeed infuriated him, but they also made him realize that he did not completely possess her, as many people coveted her and wanted to pull her away from him.
While he was lost in thought, a pair of arms wrapped around his waist from behind, holding him tightly. His tall body suddenly trembled.
"I’m sorry," she said softly.
He slowly turned around, looking at her incredulously.
She looked up, meeting his questioning gaze.
Asher Land didn’t speak. Was she trying to make amends? He wanted to see what she would do next.
Sophie was also a bit puzzled. She had already apologized, so why wasn’t he responding to her?
"I didn’t expect Senior Brother to say those things to me today, so there’s no need for you to be angry."
She wasn’t deliberately trying to please him, she just knew that if she didn’t try to please him, he would vent his displeasure entirely on Wyatt Sterling. She couldn’t let Wyatt become a thorn in his side.
After all, Edward Harrison was the best example.
She bit her lip, looking a bit aggrieved.
Seeing her made him a little soft-hearted. His large hand gently caressed her face.
He lowered his head and kissed her soft lips.
Sophie hesitated for two seconds, then began to respond to him. Her small hands climbed up his chest, unbuttoning his shirt one by one.
