She fumbled for another bottle of alcohol, struggling to open the cap with great effort.
There were many bottles scattered around her, and she struggled to make her way to the room. But with a stumble, she collapsed heavily against the corner of the table, her forehead bleeding.
"Edward, Edward..." she softly called Edward's name, blood trickling down her face, but her blurred consciousness left her helpless.
She lay powerless on the floor, slowly closing her eyes.
Asher Land walked out of the company building, checked his watch, and saw it was already eleven at night. He turned the car around, heading towards a familiar direction.
After parking the car, he casually pressed the elevator button to the eighth floor of the apartment.
He rummaged through his briefcase only to find he hadn't brought the keys. It seemed as if something had fallen inside the house, confirming Sophie Smith was inside.
He pressed the doorbell, but after a long time, there was no response.
"Sophie, open the door!" He knocked impatiently. Was this woman doing it on purpose?
But his answer was still sheer silence.
He lost all patience and kicked the door open, only to be startled by the scene before him.
The room was filled with a pungent smell of alcohol, and the living room was strewn with bottles, some even shattered with small glass shards on the floor. Sophie Smith was lying unconscious on the cold floor, blood covering her forehead and cheeks.
He rushed to her side in a flash and picked her up from the ground.
"Sophie, wake up!" He was truly frightened, anxiously calling her name.
Without thinking, he carried her downstairs and drove hurriedly to the hospital.
Sophie rubbed her slightly aching head, unable to recall much of what happened last night. She turned over and found Asher Land standing by her bedside, face tense, appearing ready to devour her.
"What, what's wrong with you?" Sophie had clearly forgotten some things. She looked around and discovered she was in a hospital, "Why, why am I in the hospital?"
"Ha!" Asher Land let out a cold laugh, "Sophie, you really opened my eyes."
If he hadn't arrived in time last night, she might have suffered from alcohol poisoning. The doctor had said if she hadn't been sent in promptly, it could have been life-threatening.
"Why did you drink so much last night?" he questioned.
"I was in a bad mood." Sophie touched her forehead, finding a bandage there. She tried hard to recall last night's events, piecing things together in her mind.
In a bad mood? Asher Land was nearly driven mad by her. This woman truly left him no peace of mind!
"What do you mean trying to kill yourself again and again?" Last time, she was almost hit by a car in Southern County, and this time alcohol poisoning—it infuriated him beyond measure. Why didn't she know how to cherish herself?
"Listen to me, even if you want to die, you must ask me first to see if I agree."
Indeed, Asher is overbearing to the point of inhumanity.
Sophie felt a bit weary. She lay in bed, staring blankly at the white ceiling above her. Sometimes, this is how it is; the clearest moments are the most painful.
Tears couldn't be held back, rolling down her cheeks in large drops.
"What are you crying about now?" Asher Land was a bit surprised, but his tone remained icy.
She wiped away the tears at her eyes' corners with the back of her hand. She was just somewhat overwhelmed. She was in such a sorry state now, feeling entirely unworthy of Edward Harrison.
Seeing her silent, Asher Land abruptly pulled her up from the bed to face him.
Every time this woman shed tears, it left him feeling annoyed and unsettled. Was this woman made of water?
