Amelia Shaw nodded and asked softly, "Can you accompany me, Thomas?"
Thomas Shannon hooked the corner of his mouth slightly without speaking.
Amelia couldn’t guess his thoughts. She lowered her head, reaching out one hand to grab his sleeve and gently pinching it.
"On my previous birthdays, I regret not being able to spend them with you. Now, I want to make up for it. Can you accompany me?"
She wants to make up for this regret, and I’m supposed to cooperate with her? Cooperate with *her*?
Thomas scoffed coldly and pulled his hand away. "Sorry, I can’t."
All color instantly drained from Amelia’s face.
Unbelieving, she staggered back a few steps, tears blurring her vision, making her eyes hazy.
Through a blur of tears, Amelia bit her lip hard. "Why?"
"The maniac just had surgery. I have to be with her."
His words were the cruelest verdict.
She couldn’t even compare to a disfigured maniac.
What kind of surgery did the maniac have that requires him to be by her side?
Amelia couldn’t accept it. She was even more unwilling to believe that she had actually lost to a maniac. She looked intently at Thomas Shannon, looking deep into his eyes.
"Thomas... Why are you treating me ?" Tears streamed down her face, a beautiful yet sorrowful sight, as she cried, her voice laced with bitterness, "The maniac will have others to care for her. Can’t you take some time to accompany me on my once-a-year birthday?"
A cold, mocking laugh escaped from Thomas’s sexy thin lips. "Samuel, it seems you still haven’t put yourself in the right place."
He withdrew his gaze and entered the bedroom.
With a loud noise, the bedroom door closed in front of her.
Amelia’s heart felt as if it had plunged into an ice cellar. A chill rushed up from the soles of her feet, spreading rapidly through her entire body.
Sophie Sullivan gradually awoke.
She looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings—the white walls and white light—as if she had fallen into a world of white.
"Awake?" a familiar male voice sounded.
Sophie’s eyes darted around before landing on Thomas, filled with surprise. How can he be here?
Her lips moved as if to speak, but Thomas raised a hand to stop her. "The doctor wants you not to talk for these three days."
Sophie blinked, signaling that she understood.
"Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Sophie shook her head.
Perhaps due to the recent surgery, her face was pale, and her lips were dry and chapped.
Thomas had the nurse bring a cup of water. He then dipped a cotton swab into it and gently moistened her lips again and again.
Thomas’s sudden attentiveness left Sophie dumbfounded. Has he taken the wrong medicine? Why is he acting so strangely today?
Sophie frowned. Thomas’s long, narrow eyes also narrowed slightly, and he paused his movements. "What’s wrong? Are you uncomfortable somewhere?"
Sophie’s gaze shifted to the doorway.
It was unclear how long Amelia had been standing there.
Sophie saw Amelia’s face, utterly drained of color, as if she were the one who had just come off the operating table. Her eyes were brimming with tears that shimmered.
Her pitiful appearance was enough to make anyone’s heart ache with sympathy.
Following Sophie’s gaze, Thomas saw Amelia standing outside the door.
Amelia bit her lip hard. Why is he so good to the maniac?
Her throat felt tight, her heart aching with bitterness. Amelia said, "I heard you say the maniac had surgery, so I came to see her."
With that, she took a deep breath and walked in. "Thomas, you must be tired too. Let me take care of the maniac; you go rest."
