His words were light, his tone incredibly gentle. If not for the coldness hidden beneath the surface, one might easily mistake his words for the intimate whispers of a lover.
But if one listened closely, they could feel the heartlessness and cruelty in his words. Every word stung.

The suffocating feeling jolted her awake. When she opened her eyes, she found Thomas Shannon’s arm resting heavily on her chest.
She irritably pushed his arm away. As soon as she did, the man’s narrow eyes slowly opened.
His dark eyes, still hazy with sleep, focused on her face after a few seconds.
Sophie Sullivan turned her back to him, muttering, "Your arm is so heavy..."
