The milk was human milk, squeezed out by the wet nurse. An Jing was drained of energy after having quadruplets, so she had no milk and had to hire a wet nurse. However, Xiao Changyi didn’t like the wet nurse holding his children and feeding them, so the wet nurse first squeezed out the milk, and then Xiao Changyi fed it to the four children.
An Yiyun was originally in An Jing’s arms and didn’t cry, but as soon as he smelled the medicine, he began crying loudly. Though he didn’t understand anything yet, every time he smelled medicine, it was fed to him. It had continued for several days, and while he couldn’t express it in words, he could only rely on crying.
But because of his poor health, even crying couldn’t last long. Soon, he was only able to sob, looking breathless.
An Jing looked at her little son’s weak, breathless appearance, his small face covered in tear marks, his little eyes still filled with tears, and her heart ached terribly.
Her son was only a few days old, and he had to take medicine every day. Now, her son had reached the point where he cried as soon as he smelled medicine; it was clear he really disliked taking medicine.
And she felt heartache.
"Husband, can Yun Er stop taking this medicine?" An Jing choked on her words, her eyes slightly reddened.
Xiao Changyi’s heart was also uncomfortable. His child started taking medicine as soon as he was born and likely would have to take it for life. How could he feel good? This was his child, their child.
After a light sigh, Xiao Changyi said, "Not taking it would make Yun Er’s health even worse."
Upon hearing this, An Jing gritted her teeth and handed over the little guy, who was too tired to cry any longer, to Xiao Changyi.
Feeding medicine to her son this young—it was something An Jing really couldn’t do. Her heart could be ruthless, but when she was kind, she couldn’t control herself. After all, this was her son, whom she carried for ten months; she truly couldn’t give such a young child medicine.
So, she left feeding the medicine to her husband.

While Xiao Changyi was feeding medicine to their little son, An Yiyun, An Jing was feeding milk to the other three children, hoping to distract herself and not think about her youngest son taking medicine. However, Yiyun’s weak cries kept penetrating her ears, agitating her nerves.
Just like these past few days, every time her youngest son took medicine, it was the most painful time of her day.
An Yiyun refused to drink the medicine; with such a young child, Xiao Changyi wouldn’t force it but fed it drop by drop into An Yiyun’s mouth, making him unable to spit it out.
An Yiyun’s little face twisted from the bitterness, wanting to cry but having no strength, could only keep on whimpering, extremely pitiful and heart-wrenching.
But Xiao Changyi wanted his child to live; even if his heart ached, he had to harden it, feeding drop by drop.
This small bowl of medicine was not much; an adult could drink it in two mouthfuls. Yet Xiao Changyi took nearly an hour to feed it to the little guy, An Yiyun.
Once the medicine was fed, Xiao Changyi quickly gave An Yiyun a sip of sugar water. The bitterness in his mouth was neutralized, becoming sweet, and only then did An Yiyun’s twisted face recover a bit, looking less pitiful than when he took the medicine.
An Jing had long finished feeding milk to the other three children, and she was sitting with her back towards An Yiyun. Even though An Yiyun had stopped whimpering, she still couldn’t bear to turn around and look.
