Amelia Linton had already been blinded by anger and resentment, and she had completely forgotten Fabian Holmes’ warning, and recklessly yelled out the words she had held in her heart for many years.
In fact, Theodore Holmes had known about his true parentage a few years beforehand, and knew who his biological mother really was, and also knew why she had died.
He discovered these truths entirely by accident.
One day a few years ago, Fabian and Amelia were arguing in their room, and he happened to overhear them when he came home early from school.
He intended to intervene with good intentions, but what he hadn’t expected was to hear the truth that they had concealed for years.
At that time, although Theodore found it hard to accept such a reality, he surprisingly managed to remain calm.
He didn’t burst in to question them but turned around and left the house, staying outside until his usual time to return home from school.
When he got home, he acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing they had said.
Hearing what Amelia said, Theodore wasn’t surprised in the slightest because it wasn’t the first time he heard her call him a bastard or an illegitimate child.
What was different this time was that she was cursing him to his face, instead of behind his back.
While he wasn’t surprised, he was extremely angry, not because she cursed him, but because she insulted his biological mother, calling her a slut.
Theodore pulled out another cellphone from his pocket, ignoring whether Amelia would suspect anything, and dialed Fabian’s number right in front of her.
"Hello! Who’s this?"
Hearing Fabian’s voice from the phone, Theodore’s expression and demeanor instantly changed. He looked at Amelia, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and spoke excitedly, "Dad! Mom said I’m a child you had with another woman, is it true?"
Towards the end of his words, he almost choked with emotion, but not a tear welled up, for his eyes were filled with nothing but hate.
"Don’t listen to your mother’s nonsense, she’s just saying that because she’s angry with me." Fabian replied, as he was already on his way to them after Easton Holmes gave him a heads-up.
He thought he was arriving in time, but he was one step too late; she had already revealed the truth.
Fortunately, he had prepared his words in advance while waiting for news, although he still wasn’t entirely confident in resolving the crisis.
Theodore knew perfectly well whether Amelia was lying, yet he didn’t expose her, "Mom sure doesn’t seem like she’s lying. She says I am just your bastard child with another woman."
"Dad! Am I really your bastard with another woman? Or am I an orphan you two adopted?" He poured out a torrent of words, each one piercing the heart of the person on the other end of the line.
"Give the phone to your mother!"
Hearing Amelia say that Theodore was a bastard, Fabian was so furious his blood pressure rose, and he demanded that Theodore hand the phone to Amelia, needing to ask her what exactly she was trying to do.
Theodore didn’t hesitate, and according to Fabian’s request, he handed the phone to Amelia, "Mom! Dad wants to talk to you."
Though the car was not illuminated, nor was there any light outside, he had already acclimated to the dimness inside the vehicle.
He found her hand with precision in an instant and at the same time placed the phone in it.
