At first, Alice Turner thought Lily Turner had run into someone she knew, but the more Alice looked, the more something felt off. She noticed that Lily’s expression was not good at all, and her whole state seemed unwell.
Feeling uneasy, she opened the car door and got out, striding towards the two people not far away.
"Lily! Is this your ’friend’?"
The "friend" Alice mentioned was in quotation marks. Lily had few friends, and Alice knew almost all of them. This woman in front of her was a complete stranger with no recollection whatsoever.
A woman suddenly appeared, causing Valentina to instinctively turn her head to look. Although she didn’t know what kind of relationship this unexpected woman had with Lily, she could tell that the relationship was quite close.
"No!"
Upon hearing her sister Alice’s voice, Lily snapped back to reality and instinctively replied "no," while pulling away the hand holding her arm. "I’m not interested in what you just said, and it has nothing to do with me."
She gave Valentina a cold look, then walked over to Alice, linking arms with her and heading towards the car parked nearby, "Sis! Let’s go."
Lily was unusually calm, calm enough to make Alice very worried, yet she didn’t understand exactly what had just happened.
She glanced back at Valentina not far away, who was also looking over at the two sisters. Their gazes met in the middle.
At the moment their eyes met, both were startled, exchanged a glance, and silently withdrew their gaze.
"Who is that woman?"
Alice already had a suspicion in her mind, but she dared not confirm it, hoping she was wrong.
"She said she’s Easton Holmes’s fiancée."
Lily’s expression was indifferent, and her tone even more so, looking very calm.
Alice heard the answer that worried her, which also left her deeply puzzled and confused. "How could that woman be Easton’s fiancée? Don’t believe that woman for a second. Easton attracts admirers; she must be infatuated with him, knowing Easton is going to get engaged..."
"Sis! Can I borrow your phone for a moment?"
Lily suddenly turned and interrupted Alice, reaching out to ask for her phone, still oddly calm.
Seeing her like this made Alice especially worried and uneasy. Nothing should happen; her sister had just begun to move on from a painful period.
"Sis! Phone!"
Having waited long without receiving the phone, Lily reminded Alice.
"Oh! Here!"
Alice pulled the phone out of her pocket and placed it in Lily’s hand, looking at her sister without saying anything more.
Lily picked up the phone, entered a string of numbers, and immediately dialed without any hesitation.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered, and it eventually disconnected automatically without anyone picking up.
Lily didn’t give up and dialed the number again, but the result was the same as before, with no one answering despite letting it ring for a long time.
Then she made several more consecutive calls, still with no answer, only hearing the same message: "Sorry! The number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable."
Alice noticed sharply that Lily was calling Easton Holmes. Seeing it wasn’t getting through, she tried to comfort her, "Easton must be busy and didn’t hear it. Try calling again later."
