Christopher’s sudden return home ended the group hug between the mother and daughters, and the four of them sat on the living room sofa.
"Alice! When is Benjamin coming over?"
Seeing Alice there without seeing Benjamin, Christopher immediately asked, with a hint of dissatisfaction in his tone.
"I’ll call him right away."
Although Christopher’s dissatisfaction wasn’t very obvious, Alice still sensed her father’s discontent. She quickly got up and went out to make the call.
That man, as her brother-in-law’s good friend, surely knows his sister and brother-in-law are having their wedding tomorrow. At this time, he should be at his brother-in-law’s place helping, right?
She didn’t care much if he came over, but her parents didn’t think the same. For better or worse, he is their son-in-law, and it simply doesn’t make sense for him not to show his face.
Alice walked to the backyard and slowly took out the phone from her pocket. She hesitated for a moment but eventually dialed Benjamin Shaw’s number.
"Hello!"
The phone rang for quite a while before Benjamin answered, only saying hello and then staying silent.
The silence on the other end of the phone ignited a flame of anger in Alice’s heart. She took a deep breath and forced that flare of anger back down.
"My sister and Easton are having their wedding tomorrow. My parents are asking when you’ll be coming over?" She tried to keep her voice calm and restrained her impatience.
"We’re about to get divorced. What does your family’s business have to do with me?" Benjamin replied detachedly, showing no intention of rushing over.
Alice was so furious she rubbed her forehead, wanting to say to the man on the other end, "Go to hell!" But she held back.
Her parents were still waiting for news of his arrival, and tomorrow was her sister and brother-in-law’s big day. She couldn’t afford to cause any trouble with him now.
But once tomorrow is over, she’ll immediately go to the Civil Affairs Bureau with him to get divorce papers sorted out. She doesn’t want to delay a moment longer.
"We aren’t divorced yet, are we? You’re still the Turner Family’s son-in-law right now." She didn’t call him her husband but referred to him as the Turner Family’s son-in-law.
"Soon, I won’t be."
Upon hearing Alice’s words, Benjamin immediately replied with this sentence.
"Soon, I won’t be."
Alice softly repeated Benjamin’s words, frowning slightly, and then continued, "As long as we are not divorced at this moment, you are still a son-in-law of the Turner Family, so please act like one."
She consistently identified him as the Turner Family’s son-in-law, not her husband.
Benjamin, however, was not accepting at all and responded right away, "Since we’re going to get divorced anyway, I’m not going to your home to play the son-in-law role. There’s no point in going to the trouble now."
After saying that, he hung up the phone directly, without caring whether the person on the other end was angry or not.
Beep!
Hearing the beep sound in her ear, Alice realized that Benjamin had hung up the call. Her face immediately turned ugly, and she removed the phone from her ear.
"Benjamin Shaw! Go to hell!"
Facing the dark screen of her phone, she angrily muttered.
"Is he not coming?"
Lily’s voice suddenly came from behind. Alice quickly hid the angry expression on her face and tried to calm her emotions as she turned to look behind her.
