Isla Lane was determined to make him leave, and Thomas Fisher had already figured it out from before; he knew her true reason well.
"Uncle Alex! Aunt Isla! You both can rest assured; I definitely won’t drink too much, and I won’t delay tomorrow’s matters either." Thomas Fisher nudged Isla Lane, who was standing by his side, urging her to return to her seat, "Aunt Isla! Please go back to your seat. I just want to chat a bit more with Uncle Chris, I won’t drink anymore."
She didn’t say it outright, so he had to play dumb.
Isla Lane wasn’t aware that Thomas Fisher had already seen through her real intentions. Seeing him so stubbornly oblivious, she felt like dousing his head with a basin of cold water to wake him up.
She wanted him to understand that the woman he was entangled with was his good brother’s wife.
But looking at the other guests in the private room, she instantly suppressed this impulsive thought.
"You really are a worrisome child."
Isla Lane gave Thomas Fisher’s shoulder a heavy pat, a mix of helplessness and endurance in her tone. She glanced at him and reluctantly returned to her seat.
Is it really Alex who’s troublesome? Or is it him?
Thomas Fisher countered discontentedly in his heart. Right now, he couldn’t care less; he was determined to stay here and keep Alexander’s wife company until the end.
After Christopher Turner and Sophia Wood sent off the other guests, they quickly returned. Seeing them come back, the other main table guests stood up.
"Brother! We’re about to head out too; we’ll visit home tomorrow," said Olivia Turner, Christopher’s sister, as she bid farewell on behalf of her husband and younger brother and sister-in-law.
As Christopher Turner and Sophia Wood headed back to their seats, hearing Olivia say they were leaving, the couple instinctively paused.
"Have you all had enough to eat?"
Sophia Wood didn’t bring up their departure first; instead, she asked if they had eaten well.
"Yes, we’ve eaten enough, sister-in-law!" Olivia Turner pointed toward the entrance of the private room and added, "Then we’ll take our leave."
The main purpose was to offer congratulations, so dining was of secondary importance.
"Brother! Sister-in-law! We are leaving now."
After Olivia Turner spoke, the other three also bid farewell to Christopher Turner and Sophia Wood.
"Brother-in-law! Sister-in-law! Thomas! We’re heading out first; you can sit with my brother and sister-in-law for a bit longer."
As Christopher’s younger siblings left, they didn’t forget to say goodbye to Alexander Shaw and Isla Lane.
After everyone in the private room exchanged farewells, Olivia Turner and the others left. Christopher Turner and Sophia Wood wanted to see them out, but Olivia and the others pushed them back.
"Among us, there’s no need to be so formal."
Christopher Turner didn’t stand on ceremony with his siblings either. After standing at the door with Sophia Wood to see them off, they returned to their seats.
With all other guests gone, only Alexander Shaw, Isla Lane, and Thomas Fisher remained. Truthfully, Alexander Shaw and Isla Lane also wanted to leave.
But seeing that Thomas Fisher showed no inclination to leave, Isla Lane made a silent gesture to Alexander Shaw, indicating they should wait a bit before leaving.
Bzzz bzzz bzzz!
Suddenly, a phone vibrated. Thomas Fisher took out his phone from his pocket and, after a glance, quickly answered it.
"Don’t say anything, just come out here immediately."
The call was from Alice Turner. Seeing that her aunt and uncle had all left, but Thomas Fisher still hadn’t shown signs of leaving, she was furious.
She pulled out her phone and dialed his number, not giving him a chance to speak. After saying her piece, she hung up the call.
