Sophie Wilson didn’t know how lively the people around her were at the party. When she finally snapped out of her excitement from studying the script, she realized nearly two hours had passed.
Looking up at the computer screen, she found Charles Seymour staring intently at her. It seemed he wasn’t expecting her to look up suddenly; a flash of awkwardness and panic flickered in his calm eyes, like a child caught sneaking candy.
However, Mr. Seymour was far more composed than a child. Just a moment of panic, and he steadied himself, as if nothing had happened, and asked, "Hungry?"
Sophie Wilson touched her stomach and nodded, "Yes."
He hadn’t mentioned it, but now he did, she really was hungry.
"Dinner will be here soon," Charles Seymour said. His voice still held no inflection, but only those familiar with him would notice the warmth and tenderness hidden within.
"Oh right, today I discovered something," Sophie excitedly grabbed a pillow from the bed, hugged it to her chest, and rested her delicate chin on it, her big, bright eyes looking at him.
Charles Seymour’s body suddenly tensed, two words flashing through his mind—it’s coming.
The rapid-fire messages from Julian Campbell just now seemed to still linger in front of him. Was Sophie finally going to ask?
Although he hoped she’d regain her memory, when the moment arrived, he was still a bit scared.
Afraid she’d remember the past and leave him... yet, this choice he never regretted.
"What?" Charles’s voice remained as calm as ever. No one knew he had to muster all his strength to maintain such composure when he uttered those two words.
His heartbeat had long surpassed what his heart could bear.
At this moment, he felt as if he was standing at the edge of a bottomless cliff, where just a whisper of wind would cause him to slip and fall into eternal damnation.
"What do you think of your father?" Sophie Wilson’s question stunned Charles, and his mind froze for a moment.
He had prepared for everything, even thought of the best outcome... Why was Sophie’s question different from what he expected?
"Do you still have such deep feelings for your father?" Sophie cautiously probed upon seeing him dazed.
"No!" Charles quickly responded, snapping out of it.
He felt no emotion towards that father of his at all.
Ever since he brought that woman holding a child back, in his heart, his father had already died.
But why was Sophie asking this?
Charles hadn’t even asked when Sophie let out a long sigh and said, "That’s good. James Reed visited the set, and I was worried you’d feel uncomfortable if you ran into him when you came over."
Upon hearing this, Charles realized what it was about and shook his head nonchalantly, "It’s nothing uncomfortable, just a stranger."
After his mother passed, the actions of some Seymour family members had already completely excluded them from his world.
Seeing Sophie Wilson smiling in relief, Charles Seymour’s eyes flickered as he asked, "Is there nothing you want to say to me... or ask me?"
