Jiang Shaoqing was reluctantly listening to his mom nagging, "Mom, I hardly ever come back home, can you give my ears a break? I’m already pestered by everyone at the company, which is enough of a headache. Coming home to this doesn’t help. If it’s going to be like this, next time I might not come home."
Shen Ye was so frustrated.
"Look at you, can’t I, your mother, even speak to you? You flare up the moment I say something."
If her son doesn’t get married, she can’t have a moment of peace.
Jiang Shaoqing was furious, "Mom, I’m genuinely dealing with some troublesome issues at the company, can you let it go, please?" He frowned and rubbed his eyes; his mother was really driving him to death.
Such pressure to get married is unmatched.
"Shaoqing! What happened at the company recently?"
Shen Ye wasn’t unreasonable; when her son really faced issues, she felt uneasy too.
"It’s not exactly bad news, just that someone is trying to mess up our bid by throwing in obstacles. Of course, it’s also my fault for underestimating them." Jiang Shaoqing purposely made his mom feel guilty so she wouldn’t trouble him.
Just as expected, Shen Ye backed down! Compared to her son’s career issues, getting a daughter-in-law seemed to take a backseat.
"Then you should rest well!" Shen Ye had no choice, she couldn’t make it hard for her son.
Jiang Shaoqing flopped onto the bed in response.
It was hard to get any sleep; his company had been in turmoil over some leaked low bid prices the week before, and he hadn’t slept for days. He finally got a chance to sleep now.
As soon as he closed his eyes, he began snoring. Shen Ye heard it from outside the door and felt a pang of heartache.
Jiang Shaoqing didn’t wake up until nighttime, freshly awake with barely an appetite. Mainly worried about his mom’s concern, he grabbed a jacket and went outside for a walk, guessing a round might spark his appetite.
Under the dim street lights, Jiang Shaoqing, dressed in sportswear and sneakers, passed through the tree-lined path.
Ahead in the corner, two young guys with curly hair, dressed in floral shirts and bell-bottom pants, were menacingly advancing towards a girl in front of them.
The girl backed away step by step, "What are you doing? Don’t come any closer, or I’ll call for help."
"What a joke, this place is so secluded, even if you scream your lungs out, I doubt anyone would care to intervene."
The young guys scoffed arrogantly, rolling up their sleeves, leering at the girl’s chest and backside with lustful eyes, clearly indicating their intentions.
"Exactly, we two brothers are not scared of your threats. Just look around, there’s not even a soul in sight. Even if you scream, would it bring anyone? You better just comply with us, it will be easier on you."
One of them actually seemed to be trying to persuade the girl kindly.
"Little brother, why bother talking to her? Let’s just get onto it."
The two guys rubbed their hands together and moved closer to the girl.
The girl backed up closer to where Jiang Shaoqing was.
"Help! Catch the perverts!"
Upon her loud scream, one of the young guys glanced at Jiang Shaoqing suddenly appearing, and threatened, "What the hell are you looking at, scram! What business do you have here? We are just in love. Get it? We are just having an argument."
Jiang Shaoqing took a look, nodded, "Understood, you guys can continue arguing." Then he turned and continued to run.
