With Magnus openly declaring that Xu Feng should stay at ease, the latter no longer continued the so-called noble etiquette.
However, he still kept a volume of respect as he explained his reason for appearing here.
"Sir Magnus, I'm sure you must have been informed that aside from the monster waves, there were people from other nearby cities that had partaken in the siege." Xu Feng said.
"Indeed, the military commander did relay such incidents to me. Since this is quite a sensitive issue, I've been pondering what to do." Magnus responded and provided some documents for Xu Feng to look at.
The documents themselves were the statistical reports that highlighted the siege and significant events.
After taking a glance at the document, Xu Feng must say that the NPCs' information gathering was far superior to the players.
Not only were those players in the participating siege listed individually with their pictures but there were also names and affiliations included.
In other words, these documents that Magnus casually handed over for him to inspect were papers filled with gold. It was gold because none of this information would be easy to investigate, especially in such an extensive format.
'Damn, I'm so tempted to take a screenshot.' Xu Feng resisted the temptation. For someone of Magnus level, if Xu Feng truly attempted such a thing without permission, then he would have been caught in an instant. By then, one could imagine the consequences.
With Xu Feng taking a while to brood over the documents, Magnus was dumbfounded by the situation. Clearly, he didn't expect the trivial documents to enchant him that much.
'These people were all worthless ants, so what could have taken his attention?' Magnus couldn't comprehend and also didn't wish to waste too much either.
Thus, he faked a cough and suggested, "If you appreciate the document that much, then you're free to keep it and view it in your free time. Let's not delay and derail from the main objective."
"That would be impolite of me." Xu Feng responded, much to the bewilderment of Magnus.
'You said it's impolite, but are quick to store it away. Howard really wasn't wrong in his description. Talented and capable, but also very shrewd in nature as well.' Having experienced it first-hand, Magnus could finally confirm his friend's word.
Nevertheless, that didn't dampen his evaluation of Xu Feng one bit. Instead, his evaluation merely increased.
Be aware of those who are talented and kind-hearted rather than those who are talented and shrewd.
Because shrewdness could easily be detected and set up counter measurement, as opposed to those who are talented and magnanimous.
Who knows when their magnanimous nature will become corrupted?
It was the equivalent of having a time bomb and praying they won't be corrupted versus having a corrupted talented individual from the start who could accomplish the task.
A corrupted talented individual was easier to manage because they couldn't escape your inspection and they were not one to mess things up to retain their value.
Meanwhile, Xu Feng put on a friendly smile on the surface, realizing his ploy had been effective.
'I supposed Magnus must now identify me as a talented but easy-to-manage person.' He thought to himself. Others might be questioning or even doubting how he managed to know everything, but it was a scheme from the start.
With Magnus' vast information network, it goes without saying that he should have known only players were eliminated by his guild.
As for the enemy NPCs, they weren't actively hunted unless they got in the way of the other players.
Therefore, the seed of doubt had been planted in Magnus' mind from there, and should have understood that players— or rather immortals in their eyes, were extremely competitive among themselves.
And from there, Magnus handed over such a detailed document to test his reaction.
If Xu Feng reacted nonchalantly or unbothered, then the perspective of Magnus on him would be lowered.
However, Xu Feng didn't do that and reacted precisely in a manner that enabled Magnus to believe he could manage or at least maneuver Xu Feng in the direction that he desired.
Sometime later, Xu Feng revealed his desire. "Sir Magnus, the immortals that tried to do harm to the city originated from Skyland City. The majority of the mercenaries were hired from there as well. Thus, I hope you can give me permission to declare war."
"Declare war huh?" Magnus' face turned solemn, almost as if he was baffled by the statement. But the truth was that Xu Feng's action aligned perfectly with the direction he thought up.
'I planned on teaching those ruffian immortals a lesson anyway. Now this is perfect. I can just permit Baron Lin Feng and make him owe me a favor.'
While Magnus held such a thought, Xu Feng was equally scheming terrible things on the inside.
'I bet Magnus must be feeling gleeful now that I'm letting him kill two birds with one stone.' He inwardly sneered. By lowering his value to someone Magnus could manipulate, he essentially made the former lower their wariness on him.
With that being said, Xu Feng could in return use Magnus as his information bitch, being able to access and gain intelligence quicker than any player.
To summarize, both of them would use each other to their benefit, and in doing so, their relationship became very compact.
'I got him in the bag' Both came to the same conclusion as they started smiling amiably on the surface.
"Giving you permission to declare war on them isn't difficult, but the problem lies in their city." Magnus clasped his hands and explained the circumstances.
"Rest assured, Sir Magnus. I won't target anyone else aside from the immortals unless they decide to involve themselves in the battle." Xu Feng smirked.
And before Magnus could respond and ask how he would accomplish so, Xu Feng continued to persuade the latter that he wouldn't be able to resist.
"Sir Magnus, our Star Falls City had been in a pitiful state for a long time, and don't you feel infuriated when others look down at us? Now that our city has revitalized and is no longer the same. How dare Skyland City still decide to look down at us, and even allow its residents to target us!"
